Heads up guys, I should be there with my brother and some F/A toys. Figured I would spread the word to you guys.
Firearms Industry Consulting Group (FICG), a division of Prince Law Offices, P.C., will be hosting the fifth bi-annual machine gun shoot at Eastern Lancaster County Rod and Gun Club on October 19, 2013, in celebration of the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution and Article 1, Section 21 of the PA Constitution. Eastern Lancaster Rod and Gun Club is located at 966 Smyrna Road, Kinzers, PA 17535. It will start at 11am and go until 4pm. From 11am until 2:30pm, it will be unsuppressed and suppressed fire. From 2:30pm until 4pm, only suppressed fire will be allowed.
Everyone, over 18 years of age, is welcome to attend. We are sorry but the insurer will not allow anyone under 18 to participate or even attend. The only requirement is that you bring a driver’s license and hearing and eye protection. All attendees will be required to sign a waiver.
There will be several dealers and manufacturers in attendance and which will have some unique firearms that you might not otherwise have an opportunity to shoot. We are still waiting for confirmation of the dealers that will be in attendance and will update this blog, as they confirm. While you are welcome to bring your own firearms and ammunition, it will be up to the owner of the firearm as to whether he/she will permit you to use your ammunition in his/her firearm. The FFLs will be bringing ammunition for purchase, if you need additional or if they require certain types of ammunition to be used in their weapon systems.
We also expect that several celebrities and politicians will be in attendance. When we are able to confirm their attendance, we will post about who will be attending.
Also, Eastern Lancaster County Rod and Gun will be making food and have drinks available, at extremely reasonable prices. Most attendees at the last shoot couldn’t get over how the Club could make any money on the food sold!
All attendees MUST RSVP.
https://www.facebook.com/events/184733538373500/
Because of the lack of donations for the Club at previous shoots, we are requiring that each person donate at least $10 to the Eastern Lancaster County Rod and Gun Club for their generous permission to use their range.

They've also had some nice pricing on 38spl and 357mag rounds lately, good quality 357mag factory loads for $22.99 a box of 50. I got 500 Herter's Select (basically Sellier and Bellot) FMJ and 250 of the PMC JSP both 158gr. These prices are much better than what I've been seeing lately.

Get something that fits in your hand, IMO that's the most important thing. Don't let someone talk you out if a gun you like. It's yours, you are gonna carry and shoot the gun. If you have never fired a gun before I'd say stick with a smaller round .380 auto or a 9mm. Learning to shoot on a .45 is a little rough, but it's doable. Did you want a full size or a compact? What's your budget if you don't mind me asking?

I suggest trying a few different rentals and seeing what you feel best with. Some triggers will feel weird to you. Some grips may be too big or too small or angled a way you don't like. Too many variables for anyone to just say "get this"

Wow. Great question. I just finished going through this whole song and dance for a year lol. Best advice? Go with what feels right (you'll know it when you find it)
I started with an s&w 40ve, then went to a glock 23, then a glock 19, then a 22 (all 40 cals). My issue was concealment. I'm not a big guy, so carrying something like a 23, you could see it easily. Plus I prefer to wear outside of the belt as opposed to inside (personal preference, I hate the inside feel) so I finally came across a tarus 85vl. Nice .38 special and inexpensive as well. I walked out the door with that two 20 rd boxes of jhp and about 100 rnds for my m4 for less than $300. But point is I knew that was my cc weapon the minute I picked it up. So go with your gut man.
Good luck :)

A good holster and proper belt matter so much more than saving a quarter inch off the gun. I carry my G19 with a Raven Concealment OWB holster and a riggers belt and even with my 32" waist I can conceal it just fine. I have a G26 and a Galco IWB tuckable holster for other duties.
FYI, you shouldn't really care about "printing" as its not illegal.

I prefer the smooth lines and snag-free profile of my glocks. Plus with some little Flitz work and swapping around of trigger connectors, the triggers have improved vastly, still all while using all factory glock parts. I've become very used to the grip angle and aligning the sights right after drawing so it makes a good platform for me.
If you spend a year or two shooting and carrying any other gun like I did with my glocks, you'll be just as comfortable.

plenty more quality holsters instead of the blackhawk. If you're looking for something with retention take a look at the safariland concealment holsters.
I've been rocking a KT mech holster, it was cheap and it works.

The ND stories are from inadequate or improper training. On the draw people get lazy with their trigger finger and let it slip inside the trigger guard and then pull the trigger as they come up on target (or before). I like Safariland holsters much better than Serpas but with the proper training and practice the Serpa is as safe as any other holster. Like schaffer said though there are plenty of other options.
Raven are great holsters that place the gun tight to the body which makes it carry more like an IWB, unlike the Serpa which makes the gun fee like a brick flopping around on your belt. However, with Raven you pay a bit more because of the name than other kydex holster designers. Atomic Dog is a PA based company who make just about the the same design as Raven with the same level of quality.
If you're considering the Serpa make sure you try out some Safariland OWB holsters as well. I can't remember the model that I had for my M&P9 Pro but it was basically a thumb-release version of the Serpa that held the gun more securely without the flopping around on the belt and feeling like a brick. It carries the gun tighter without being IWB-tight like the way the Raven or Atomic Dog are. After trying many it's the only active retention holster I'll ever buy again.

Can't go wrong with s&w! I'd get one in 357 though, that way you can shoot 38 all you want but have the option to throw 357 in if you ever want to. If you're set on 38 only, and plan on harrying it I'd look at the 642. It's got a bobbed hammer (meaning it's double action only, no exposed hammer to cock for single action.... Also means one less pointy thing to get caught on clothes, etc. if you have to draw it. Plus it can be had for under $400 which is nice)
If you're open to suggestions, my favorite smith revolver I've ever owned was a 65 K frame with work done to it (barrel shortened and crowned, trigger job, action job, etc). A model 60 may be a good "middle of the road" between a 38 j frame and something like a 357 K frame; the 60 shoots both 357 and 38, no bobbed hammer (so can be fired single action [more fun for challenging target shooting], and is still small with a 2.x"-5" barrel.
Some people have an issue with s&w because of an agreement they made with the Clinton administration in 2000, if you're hardcore (which I know you are), ruger and some of the Taurus revolvers are decent. Whatever smith you decide on get a "pre-lock" gun. It was a stupid "safety" feature incorporated in 2000 or 2001 that added a little keyhole to the action and SUCKS, plus there's been stories of the lock engaging while firing... Never happened to me but I can imagine if I were using the gun to decent myself and it locked on me I'd be pissed/screwed

With colder weather coming, Ive been looking into OWB holsters to carry my M&P, with that being said, i really like the Blackhawk! Serpa, but i am seeing mixed reviews about it online, along with ND stories blaming the holsters retention system. Anyone here with hands on experience? Love, Hate what ever
+1 on going with Safariland > Blackhawk. I had a Blackhawk Serpa that I couldn't give away. I hated how the gun rode in it & the retention system was a joke. Safariland held the gun much tighter to the body & also kept it from flopping around which I think someone already said here as well. You can also look into custom made rigs from Atomic Dog, Armordillo Concealment & Raven. I have one from both Atomic Dog & Armordillo Concealment and I can't complain about either. Both were roughly the same cost as a Safariland/Blackhawk and were made to my specific needs/wants.

Guys I have to say I'm very happy with this set up, it is a little on the heavy side weighing in at just over 10 pounds with the suppressor mounted. I ended up getting a 7 point buck opening day around 2pm. I shot it on the run with two other deer after they were fired on by another hunter. After my deer drop the two other deer stop and just looked around. They had no clue what was going on. These barnes triple shock bullets did the job and with the suppressor not even the other hunter realized I fired my weapon. Well heres a picture hope you guys enjoy.

Anyone here have, or ever shot the smith and wesson sd9ve or sd40ve? They're cheaper guns I'm aware, but this will be my first pistol and mainly a home defense and range gun. I'm sure I will eventually get something else as well but thinking of picking up one of these to get my feet wet. Most of the reviews are pretty solid. Some people complain about some failures, but it seems to be because of people's grip or lack there of which causes it. Anyone have hands on experience?

"Pulled the trigger" and picked up the s&w sd40ve. The range was packed so I didn't get a chance to shoot it but I'm still excited. I picked up 50 rounds with it and I'll probably go blow through them at some point this week.

Might be a hard thing to find, most hunters gut there deer on the spot after killing them, so it gets left in the woods.

Anyone with a handgun, I have a question. On my new s&w, when a try to put a full magazine in, it won't stay in there without a forceful push, and I mean forceful. When the mag is empty it goes in normal. Is this because its new and the mag spring is still stiff or should i bring it to a smith and have them look at it? Thanks.

That's normal. All M&Ps do it, some other types of guns too. It does have to do with the mag spring but from my experience it doesn't go away. It's just something that happens.

Ok as long as its not something i need to worry about. I did get a response from a couple guys on a s&w forum who said it happens and it will get a little better as the spring breaks in. So fingers crossed for that.

Here for my monthly TST scan and thought Id share the latest purchase.
Was in a local shop and stumbled on this gem. It's numbers matching, nazi proofed, two mags, original holster, excellent bore, half-cock, stainless FLGR, mag safety, and no import marks. Shop owner says it was sold to him by the daughter of a vet, mags still loaded with .32acp. Serial number 666xx
From gunbroker:
Seller's Description:
This is a rare Unique Kriegsmodell that was manufactured for the German military during the WWII Nazi occupation of France. The Kriegsmodell is chambered for the 7,65mm (.32 ACP). This pistol is original and has no import marks. The frame, slide and barrel all have the matching production number. The right rear tang is Nazi Army accepted with the Eagle/WaAD20 stamp. There were only about 18,000 made under German occupation. The condition is good with some holster wear and some very light corrosion here and there (more like surface staining). The front and rear grip straps are browning. There is some minor surface rust in a few isolated spots but there is no real pitting. The original grips are marked "7.65mm 9 Schuss" meaning .32 ACP and 9 Shots . They are excellent having no cracks or chips. The gun appears to be in excellent mechanical condition, we have not tested it. The bore is excellent and the magazine is original.

I hear the tiny 1911s don't really work all that well. Something to do with the timing of everything with the short barrell. Subcompact 45 glocks are pigs and the slim frame doesnt carry enough ammo for my taste.

i had two P238's and both were total garbage, i basically gave them away. I hope they've fixed the issues since. I plan on picking up a G36 pretty soon as a more "deep concealment" gun. The G42 looks pretty good too if you want to go 380. I am personally trying to consolidate ammo to .22, .45, 223, and 308 and MAYBE something random like 300BLK or 338.

Need some opinions. I'm looking to get handgun for a daily carry and would like to be steered in the right direction. The two guns are kind of apples/oranges, and I do know the obvious choice, but figured I'd ask anyways.
The two guns I'm looking at are the Glock 19, and the HK45. I know is 9mm vs. 45acp and that the glock will have a bigger magazine, smaller, and about half the price of the HK.... BUT...I really like the look and reviews of the HK and more stopping power never hurts.
So..let me have it lol.

Have you held/shot either of them yet? I wouldn't make any decision until that point. You can read all the reviews you want (which obviously should be taken into account) but if you don't like the feel of it you won't want to carry it anyway. So I recommend going to check both of them out, rent them and put a few magazines through each to see which you like better. I've shot a glock 19 and liked it. No experience with the HK though.

JUST FINISHED MY MOSSBERG 500 TACTICAL SHOTGUN BUILD AND HAD SOME THINGS LEFT OVER THAT I DIDNT END UP USING
1.) ATI DELUXE HEAT SHIELD WITH GHOST SIGHTS - BRAND NEW NEVER USED
2.) MAGPUL FOREND - BRAND NEW NEVER USED
3.) GGG FRONT SLING MOUNT - BRAND NEW NEVER USED
4.) CRUISER 20" BARREL WITH HEAT SHIELD - SLIGHTLY USED - NO FRONT SIGHT
GRAB IT ALL FOR $200 SHIPPED
How much for just the ghost rings? Might be picking up a mossberg soon. Probably going to get the maverick not the 500 so the forend won't fit. And going to get the 18.5" barrel.

Can't go wrong with a GLOCK 19. You gotta decide on caliber though. Also if you carry compare the sizes.

Agreed. Also, if you plan to shoot it a decent amount consider price of ammo. It can add up pretty quickly. You can read all the debates about different size calibers as well. If its worth it to have a .45 over a 9mm etc. a 45 is substantially bigger when compared to a 9.

I have the glock 26, 22c, 30sf, and the HK45C. The 45C in only slightly slightly thinner than the g30sf but also holds two more rounds of .45.
The 26 is the subcompact 9mm and has a cult following itself. I know that you were asking about the 19 but I have the sizes below and above the 19, the 26 and 22c.
Just for ****s, Ill compare the g30 to the hk45. I love the 45c and will be buried with it. Would I pay $1000 for one? No F****** way. I found mine used for $500 in great shape. Dont forget that the HK comes with a decocker, 1913 rail, and their own version of night sights standard. Not to mention its dead accurate and will never lose its value.
The 22c is awesome as well. 16 rounds of .40 and basically weighs the same as the g30sf with 11 rounds. But its huge.
I'd highly suggest you pickup a .380 G42 for right now to get a deep concealment piece. Carry that while you look for a HK45c.

NCStar RB25 model rings
Either an AIM sports or NCStar 2-7x pistol scope
Nice sub $50 combo. I couldn't get my NCStar scope sighted right so I exchanged it for an AIM Sports and it's been holding up to the recoil nicely.

Thats crazy, I don't know of a shop local to you but mine does not do that.
Your basically being charged for using their FFL license to receive. Not for the transfer. The state charges $2 for gun tax and $3 for the PICS. It costs the shop $5. The rest is a set fee they are raping you for using their address/ lic. I'd call around or try to negotiate that fee. All of the recievers could have been done on one form, its not like they were filling out the papers 3 times.

Kit came with a hard case, holster, speed loader, gun lock, cleaner, two magazines, and a mag pouch. I wasn't a huge fan of the OWB holster that came with the gun so i picked up a IWB holster, i'll have to get used to it but it does conceal the gun 50 times better.

Sometime in the nearish future i would like to pick up a HK45, got to hold it and it's such a beautiful gun and i want something in .45acp. I would prefer a HK45 to a 1911.
nice start to your collection! You have most of your bases covered already... I would add a .22lr rifle (I have a Marlin 795 I picked up for like 100 bucks and have more fun shooting that than some of the expensive guns I have/had.
if you want something in .45, take a look at Sig P220's... I have owned nearly every popular .45 pistol ever made and the P220 is in my opinion one of the nicest, and an old West German example (the older ones are WAY better guns than the new ones) can be had for like $500 bucks. I got mine used, broke it down to inspect... she was dirty but in good shape, since then I put 3000 rounds through her only cleaning one (not even a detailed cleaning just a filed strip and wipe down), and the only FTE I had was with a hand load that was entirely too light.
::edit::
check out the Mojo front peep sight for the AK, makes a world of difference.

Also, I have a 92FS, that I love, with Hogue grip, that gun is 15 years old by now, but still, my most often used because of the healthy balance of pretty powerful 9mm ammo, that is not as expensive, as .45. And as a "victim of financial crisis" I bought a Sig Mosquito, that costs me $15 in ammo to shoot for half a day non–stop :O)))))
As a more antique style piece I have a 1917 Luger, suprisingly precise shooting machine. And just for fun of it, I bought a 1924 Nagant form Tula. Shot it just once, did not like it. But as a piece of history that's a must have for me.

Ck what Tom (99corvette) said, A 338 lapua IMO is pointless unless you have somewhere to really stretch its legs ie 600-1000 yards. Even then Ammo is flat out ridiculous, I pay less for my 50bmg ammo then 338. I held a Kriss, they feel awesome, but I heard from a couple guys over on the snipershide forum that they are picky on ammo. Last but not least, well you cant go wrong with an HK. enough said, lol.

I finally got out this past weekend and put some rounds through the AR. It was at targetmaster so it wasn't very long range, but was keeping like 2-3 inch groupings. Not the best but I was happy enough with it. What's a little annoying is you have to use their ammo for .223/5.56. I have a bunch of rounds at my house but couldn't bring them. Got some more work in with my S&W .40 as well. Pretty accurate with it up to about 20 yards, definitely need more work.

Well, I ended up with a Colt AR-15A3 "Tactical Carbine" (6721) HBAR with a 1/9 twist, and side of reciever is marked "restricted law enforcement, military, export only". It was a fantastic deal. Supposedly it's a military trade-in from canada, and it was advertised as a canadian manufactured, but mine says USA. Was told it's mil-spec, what's that mean?
I can definitely feel the heavy barrell when carrying by the handle but this might help accuracy some, and I hear it doesn't get as hot as fast with the cheapo ammo. For $595, I wasn't going to argue, and I don't do any kind of shooting where weight will be a concern. It looks very clean inside

Federal, PMC, and American Eagle are what I've always used. Tanner's always has the lowest prices around, but youll have to get there early Saturday mornings and wait in line before they open (or at least that's how it usually is)

I saw PMC for $335 for 1,000rds. I might try to get a box or two each of the Wolf or Tula and see if my rifle likes it. I find it odd that a rifle used by the military could be that particular about the ammo it shoots or being dirty. After all, the boys out there in the desert of Iraq etc. have sand blowing around, I hope their rifles don't malfunction. Some reviews I read about the russian steel case ammo make it seem like its unusable, but everyone online has an opinion. I am however coming from an AK which I still have which I know can be thrown in dirt and mud and fired immediately after no problems.

Tanner's doesn't do that. They get their shipments in during the week, then they put it all out for sale on Saturday. Obviously they limit purchase amounts of some of the ammo, but thats just to prevent the first person in line to buy all of the .22 when theyre never going to shoot it. Hands down the best place to buy guns & ammo imo. Check out their facebook page to see what ammo they put out for sale Sat mornings

Fireclean is a CLP that prevents carbon build-up. I know a couple of friends who have used fireclean on their guns and have put thousands of rounds through them without any major cleaning. just disassemble, wipe, and reassemble. I just used it on my glock 34 and put 400 rounds through it with the suppressor and had no issues even though it was gunked to all hell. I had feeding issues with my guns over the winter with the sub-zero temps, so I can't wait to see if it performs in the cold as they state it does.

Local to me I can get a 1000rd case of PMC 223 55gr for 335+tax which comes up to par with online prices.

A friend and I split a 1000rd case of CBC 5.56x45 it was $345 shipped from Palmetto State Armory. I don't know why I was so insistent on 5.56 considering I haven't shot that NOR .223 but I thought it would make it more fun with a slightly punchier round. CBC is made in Brazil and is a part of the Magtech and Sellier&Bellot family. Brass case FMJ. Basically paid the same as .223 is locally.

After doing more research I found a few things my rifle doesn't have. I am a bit disappointed because i expected the works from a Colt rifle but I guess for $595 I still walked out of there like a champ.
It looks like the second carrier from the top and as I understand, having the unshrouded pin and cut rear are both not really "good" things. I am pretty sure that my carrier is a colt one (stamped C) and my actual bolt is scribed CMP

I doubt these things will cause major problems but I figured a rifle that's for "government and military use only" would have the better parts. Am I just being anal over this?
I'll take some pictures of some areas of concern (wear) and post later. It does have the "M4" style feed cuts.

You can replace the BCG and bolt for not a ton of money.

Can you recommend a few nice full-weight "M16" style carriers with a shrouded firing pin?
And couldn't I technically re-use my bolt as well and just change the carrier, or does it make sense to just get it all together? I'm gonna shoot it with what it's got tomorrow, but from what I've seen the 6721 usually comes with a full-weight carrier so mine has been replaced at some point.
