2 NJ Cops Crash Viper- One dies

Saw this on the news this morning, and a snippet in the paper about it... anyone have an article.

Southbound Rt.130 in North Brunswick.

It was a RENTED Viper.... While its sad and tragic, this should help to shine a light on the fact that EVERYONE speeds (exceeds the speed limit).

Oh, they were on-duty too... think they were UC looking for speeders on 130?

Why don't you wait until the full story comes out before you start ripping on cops. No matter if they were speeding or not, it's a life lost. One less life on the street protecting us. And don't even tell me that there was never a time when you ****ed off at work. . .at your employers expense.

1. i don't need an excuse to rip on cops. they are just like everyone else, they aren't special super-heroes. They are regular dudes and gals who just want to make money. There are just as many bad cops as there are bad trashmen.

2. "One less life on the street protecting us"????? God forbid anyone else was ON the street when they were acting like 18 years olds.. They could have killed an innocent motorist!

3. First off, yes, i'm sure everyone has screwed around at work. But I'm not a cop!!!! Cops are supposed to be held to a higher standard... they are state/govt employees getting paid by OUR TAX dollars. If you are a cop, then NO, you CANNOT jerk around at work.

Please stop trying to defend these guys who were OBVIOUSLY in the wrong, despite that you obviously have some kind of close connection to police. Cops screw up and break rules just as much as everyone else, its just that they are so well protected and isolated by the institution that they RARELY get in trouble for it..... So in a sense, this situation might actually be a wake up call for any other cops out there who are ABUSING their priviledges. Cops get a free ride in this society, and many know that, and thats why the decide to be cops, to take advantage. (and btw- before you try to bash me, one of my best friends from high school got back from Iraq and is in the process of becoming a Philly cop..... this kid was/is mentally unstable. But will that stop him from getting a job? Nope. especially not in philly.)

They should have just bitting sitting on the side of the road somewhere writing arbitrary tickets to help pad the jurisdictions income.

Wrong, They might just be "just like everyone else" in some manors, but they AREN'T just doing it to get paid. Have you ever strapped on a Bullet Proof Vest everyday when you went to work? Have you ever had to go into someone's house or in a situation that you did not know if you were going to be shot at or make it out alive as a JOB? Something tells me doing lighting or whatever the hell you do on film sets isn't ANYTHING like that. I know I don't have to do it anymore, and I'm thankful. Just because a cop gave you a ticket for having a ****** car doesn't give you the right to not give respect where respect is do.

Keep that in mind next time you get that Scion on 3 wheels driving on the on ramp. (Tip: keep gas in your tank)

That sounds good and all, but that's just not what happens. It's the same thing when I was in the Marines, "Held to a hirer standard", ok sure. We/They are, and 98% of the time this was true, but you're always going to screw around at some point, whether it ON or OFF the job. But when the **** hits the fan who's there? Not you, it's them. And THAT fact alone deserves your respect. It's not hard. They do something you don't have the balls to do. The guy gave 15 years of his life to his community, what have you done lately?

How is that going to stop me from bashing you? Because you have a friend who is going through the process? Good thinking. Wake up and get out of the mind set that authority is always being taken advantage of. If I adopted your thought process that I can now think every Scion Tc driver is a pillow biting tool box.

Too many. And then they always get knocked down to no points... i guess if i were really breaking the law and being a danger to society, they wouldn't just let me off with a slap on the wrist and fine.

Sorry, I just find it incredibly hypocritical when cops ticket civilians for infractions that they are out there committing themselves. They (not all, but a lot) think they are above the law.

This is just an extreme case where they got caught.... I'm sure cops do questionable stuff all the time, and just never get busted for it.

Also, at this point in time I happen to be very skeptical/mistrusting of cops based on a situation that happened to me last week:

I get to my folks house after work to p/u my daughter. Park my car, step out, and see a black Audi A4 cruising down the cross-street, 1 house down the block. At the corner is a 4-way stop sign, its an upscale residential neighborhood. Anyway, the Audi RIPS through the 4-way stop doing AT LEAST 50 (I think closer to 60+, my dad was cutting the grass and also saw, estimated at 50+). I scream at the a-hole and immediately start to give chase on foot, but couldn't get close enough to get a tag.

I call the police dept. to report the incident... the officers response : "yeah, well, unfortunately that happens in all of our neighborhoods, theres really nothing we can do about it".

I basically said, "R U F'ing KIDDING ME??? Listen officer, i grew up at this intersection for 18 years, i've seen plenty of people blow the stop signs before (and never reported it)... this was absolutely outrageous!! There are little kids playing in that area at all times of day. I was literally scared to death when i saw how fast he was going.

The cop basically reiterates that they're not going to do anything about it. I get pissed off and hang up. The next day, I'm getting close to my folks neighborhood, and I pass down an access road that runs parallel to a Septa Trolley. There are no homes on this road, it is borded by Merion Golf Course and the trolly tracks. However, there is a cop just sitting in the parking lot of the trolley station, waiting to ticket people who go faster than the posted limit on that road.

They would rather sit and write tickets (because thats how the jurisdiction makes money) than actually go out and address the actual situations that are dangerous to citizens. There is no "serving or protecting" going on when you are sitting at a speed trap writing tickets...... They wait until someone dies at a known dangerous place (like the hit n run in Sharon Hill where the 16 y/o girl died) then they make a big deal about people speedng there. Its like "HELLO?! You've known the entire time that thats a dangerous spot where cars fly, yet you've done nothing to protect citizens... then when someone dies you suddenly care." They are REactive instead of PROactive.

eh, i'm tired of ranting about this. But in a certain sense, i think its good what happened to the guys in the viper, it will help to send a message to other cops to not screw around. I really hope they bring the driver up on charges.
