By witnesses I was referring to people who saw what happened but thought that if they stopped and hurt your friend he could sue them. He couldn't.

I agree with you they should stop. Im just trying to clarify a common misconception most motorists have

i was told by some of the police officers that by fleeing the scene of an accident when you are a witness you can recieve fines for not completing a police report. thanks to these people who didnt even roll down a window to say is anyone ok? the only people who could fill out a report were my friend and i.

he had his seatbelt on and everything thank god or else he mightve been out the window or something. the drunk guy was thrown from the truck then proceeded to say "i wasnt driving the truck, the driver clipped me when i was walking down the road then after the truck flipped he took off." so the local police had a search helicopter with a spotlight checking the fields around the accident. then they found out that the truck was owned by the drunk guy's brother and that the drunk guy was driving and just didnt think they were gonna find out. he had no idea how hurt he was b/c of how much alcohol was in his system. the emts said that he was gonna need airlifted even though he was walking around b/c he had blood coming out of his ears. my friend got taken in an ambulance b/c the clutch pedal crossed under the brake pedal and smashed his foot, luckily nothing was broken just really, really bruised.
the emt said that this wasnt the guy's first incident and that he might be on his 3rd strike so they might hit him with attempted vehicular homicide or something on top of DUI and driving with no license, registration, or insurance.

thanks to everyone who is showin support!!

yeah, it's a shame most people don't know about the good sam law. on the other hand, in many cases it's best to just see if everyone is alert and oriented and call 911; don't help them out of the car or play heman and pull them from the wreckage unless they're in immediate danger. EMS response times are pretty good all over the state; call 911 and stay with the victoms, talk to them and tell them to sit tight. a little help goes a long way
