Fireworks?

Alright so I'm pretty new to photography still and with so much to learn I've just been trying stuff out. Last night there was the ending fireworks show for the local fair. I shot about 20 pictures with my camera.

Nikon D40x in manual mode, with varied exposure times shooting RAW.

18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6

Here's the full photobucket album

Here are my 5 favorite ones:

any thoughts and critiques are appreciated. I went in blind really and used a field guide and the manual to get a very vague idea of what to do lol.

Photos are straight from the camera with some cropping. No adjustments. After uploading I have realized my lens was probably very dirty... I apologize for that lol

Has anyone else shot fireworks before? Have some pics?

For some reason, I really like the last one the best.

i don't see any dirt spots but every photo is blurry. gotta use a combination of iso, shutter speed and aperture to stop the motion of the fireworks. looks like your SS was too slow.

yeah my iso was at 200 for all of the photos.

I was adjusting Aperture and SS the best that I could. Def a fun thing to shoot though. Hopefully I can do it again around 4th of July to try again.

Low Aperture, Low ISO, Long shutter...snap it shut when the burst is "painting" in the sky.

ahhh ok, thanks for the link James! I'll def check it out

I need to also pick up a remote for my camera. that is also part of the reason the picture may be blurry. I caught myself touching the camera toooo much...

Set your timer for like 5 seconds or so, and click it when you hear the launch.

You don't stop the motion of the fireworks noob

Nice start Dan...the third one looks like the best combo of aperture and ss
