Shifting Problems, Srt-4

I'm having some problems getting into gear with my car, Its an 04 Srt-4. When the car is off the car shifts into all the gears perfectly fine, but when it is on it needs a good amount of force to get it into gear. First and Reverse are the hardest. The clutch still feels good and the pressure hasn't changed. Anyone have any idea's at all?

Also, This just recently happened today I drove it perfectly fine to the bank, parked, Got back in my car and I could barely get it into reverse. Thanks.

I really couldn't tell you, Just picked it up about a month or so ago. Also It doesn't make any grinds or any of that it just randomly got harder to shift. I was thinking shift linkage but I'm not sure.

Could be, Shift cables can be adjusted under the shifter assembly itself.

I had the center console out. I just wasn't 100% on how to adjust them. Are they supposed to be as tight as possible?

1. Remove center console. (2 screws in front cupholders, 4 screws in armrest)

2. Locate 8mm bolt on drivers side shifter cable.

3. Loosen bolt (don't remove), put shifter in 3rd gear, and where ever the bolt ends up (without you moving anything), tighten it.

4. Enjoy smoother shifting.

He's talking about my old car. When I had it, I had NO problems at all with shifting whatsoever. Trans should be fine. Supposedly the 04's have the best trannys. I would look into the fork. I hear those things need to be replaced. Have you recently changed the tranny fluid too (can only help)?

Good luck,
Jeremy

My 04 was awesome, i just had clutch problems.

If your gonna replace the shift fork look into a billet one, Plus if you change the fluid make sure you get the friction modifier. I didn't run it when i changed mine but i ended up regretting it. It makes a difference

First thing I would do is fresh trans fluid and bleed the clutch before I went guessing at problems and potentially expensive repairs.

pump up the clutch pedal a few times before you shift and see if that makes a difference. if it does you probably need a master/slave cylinder.

Sometime in the future put in a short throw shifter and booger bushings. Makes a world of difference in the feel of shifting in the SRT... I feel like im the only person that never had a real problem with their SRT. The biggest problem I had is when I snapped a solid motor mount at the track and when it snapped it put a hole in my AC line. All fixed under warranty

the only problem i had with my trans was the clutch got covered with oil cause my BOV was right at the bellhousing and i didnt have a catch can. and that got covered by warranty. then my shift selector broke and got stuck in second gear. the trans isnt really weak in those cars as long as you dont drive it like a retard.

I'm on my 4th clutch and 2nd trans. I opted to upgrade the trans after the 3rd clutch started slipping and then another 3rd gear sync went out on me, to which I upgraded the clutch again.

At least now I'm on a stage 2 pwerks with billet input shaft and stage 5 south bend race clutch. No more problems holding power!

Everything is fixed now. I did do a trans flush with the additive but that didn't help. Under the clutch there is an 8mm bolt to adjust it and it got loose somehow, So the clutch wasn't engaging enough. All good now though, Shifts like butter again

i would look into maybe replacing the master and slave. clutches dont just come out of adjustment out of nowhere. you would have noticed it over time getting worse. if it just all of a sudden wouldnt shift, theres probably another issue and adjusting the pedal is only a temporary fix.
