Transmission Additive

I know everyone is going to say the syncros are probably going bad, but right now I don't have the money to fix it properly.

SO I am trying to find recommendations for an additive for my manual transmission because 2nd grinds (higher rpm), and occasionally some other gears. Any advice on an additive would be great. Thanks

Just out of curiosity what kind of car do you have?

I have an 07 SI and Honda did a GOD AWFUL job with the 6sp MT. I've already had my third gear synchro replaced, and now my second grinds like crazy, especially when hot and at high RPMs (which was totally embarrassing yesterday at Sonic!)

Anyway, I've heard Amsoil MTF does wonders on the SIs, but I don't know what kind of car you have, or if it will work on it. I have yet to change out my MTF though, but I will do so soon, and if it takes away my grind, I'll let you know--I know its worked for others.

I have an 03 Jetta GLS, and apparently on Vdubs its common for second to grind. I really dont have a ton of money right now, so I need more of a band-aid for the issue rather than surgery.

So changing all the tranny fluid is also out at this point. I'm looking for something to just dump in with the existing fluid.

And I hear you with the embarrassment part. Nothing worse than driving by someone and having your car go crrrkkk.

I would bleed the clutch and change trans fluids to RP w/ Syncromesh. I love it(it is a little on the thick side so in winter I let my car run a few minutes before driving but I bank though gears no problem. Had it in my car for over 15k miles and I'm probally gonna do it again at the end of summer.)

Royal Purple or GM Synchromesh.

I used the GM synchromesh in one of my integras that had a third gear grind, and while it didnt completely fix the problem, it did help a LOT. Instead of it grinding at 5500+ it would only do it when I completely revved out 2nd. Its definitely a worthwhile shot as a "band-aid fix."

Thanks for all the quick responses. Just one more question, is it better to have thicker or thinner fluid?

Thicker fluid will get around better, but you don't want it to thick. Fluid becomes thin when it gets hot. I would go with RP stuff.

Thanks everyone. New fluids in and its shifting a lot beater in all gears. Second still grinds but not as bad. I'll just continue double clutching second.
