What will i notice?

I have an 05 STi with an spt intake. I just bought a catback exhaust. Once that's on, will there be any difference in power or just noise? From what ive heard I need a reflash to feel anything new.

if you really want to notice some gains, pick up a downpipe to mate up to your catback. after that go for a reflash and enjoy. tuning is the most important thing you'll ever do to your car

Personally, only time I've ever noticed a car being faster is after something major. An exhaust isn't going to produce any noticeable gains.

After putting stickers on a car, it always feels faster. Thanks for the input fellas.

The catback isnt gonna get you anything, but at least it will sound like a proper Subaru.

sound advice in here so far. i would just like to add that you WILL feel a quite decent gain from dp+catback+tune (aka stg II). i would suggest that you do this all at once, or at least dp+catback.

Catback is already enroute. Looks like I have to order a downpipe now. Appreciate all the advice guys.

np man, my philosophy(sp?) is do it right the first time. if u cant affoard to, then how can you affoard to do it twice? Stuff like this I always replace everything I can while I do it. I guess thats how I ended up going from a simple wrx swap into a gc to a stage 4 wrx swap... haha

Stage 2 = Best mod u will do for ur STi.

yea theres more power to be made with other stuff, but the first thing you do where u really feel the difference is the best, because its the key that opens to door

I used to run a downpipe with the stock catback, then swapped catbacksa couple time trying to find one i liked on my sti. what i noticed was that with the stock catback, the car felt like it had more torque, but the revs wouldn't climb as effortlessly like they did with the catback on.

without a downpipe or tune, you may notice a little loss in lowend, but i doubt it'll be overly dramatic.

with out knowing the details of your catback, i don't understand why anyone would say there's no gain??? ASSUMING of course that you're exhaust system is now larger than stock, ie. 3inch pipe from the cat and back, you're now having a more free flowing exhaust ergo you're gonna make more power, it might not be as much as a performance upgrade had you gone with like a 3inch turboback (catless), but you're still gonna get gains out of a catback exhaust system, more so if you get an aftermarket downpipe as well, and yes a tune will certainly smooth everything out and give you a nicer power band. however just like every single performance question, anything you ever do to your car, should be done with a set goal, in other words don't just by a catback, turboback, intake, turbo, intercooler or whatever other mod if you don't have a set goal of what you want your car to do, other wise you're pretty much wasting your time and money.

Because until you actually open up the whole exhaust you'll see no benefits. If you just put a catback on your exhaust is still running through two cats and a 2.5" pipe. By the time it gets to the midpipe portion whatever size it is it's not going to improve flow.

It's a 3 inch catback. Lots of differing opinions in here, but in all honesty I love this car so much that I'll be happy with anything this exhaust does. Noise or power or both, its all good.

Here's an in cabin from when I finished my swap. Had to run all stock stuff since I was waiting on the dp and the ap.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhQQf4OZkuY

I don't have it on my youtube but I thought I had a video of that stock set up with just the axle back. If I was ever gonna buy a wrx for plans of just a daily I'd still at least run a muffler. It always sounds good.

Downpipe and a tune are the best bang for your buck mod with the STi. You can actually feel the difference.

Damn I thought Hellas and mudflaps were the best mods for power. Thanks man, seriously. My refusal to use smilies can make me sound overly serious at times.
