Any Fly Fishermen here?

Last year my girlfriend's brother in law got me into fly fishing and I've been going every chance I get since. Last Christmas my girlfriend got me a Sage 3wt blank and a Orvis battenkill reel. I finished building the rod a few weeks ago and got to use it last weekend in Spring Creek and Fishing Creek by State College. The fishing was tough with the drastic temp changes and I only managed a 12" wild brown for the day but I still had a blast.

So does anyone else on here fly fish? Anyone go out on opening day?

I only had my phone with me so the quality is poor:

You were at some really good spots. There is a ton of good fishing around State College, specifically around the Spruce Creek area (as you prob know). Most of the creek is private but some of the outfitters can hook you up. There's also some spots above and below the private areas but I haven't fished them in a long time.

Another palomino, my buddy caught it though, not me. And yes, I'm rockin some awesome terminator shades over my glasses

a rainbow at the same spot

a nice little valley creeker

some pics from the spot i've fished the most in my short fly fishing career:

and a scenery shot...if there are many fly fishermen on tst I suppose it's possible someone may even recognize this

a shot of what I caught in Ohio a couple weeks ago...

Nothin!

and finally, they don't have to be big to be amazing fish

Totally agree! My first Brook Trout:

I'm surprised to see your buddy hooked a Golden. I haven't run into one but from what I hear they're tough to catch because they're so heavily targeted.

First time fly fishing: (This was on the Broadhead)

yeah, that palomino was caught on the brodhead as well, if i recall correctly

it was out of a stretch of water that was just fantastic. we were pulling out bows practically every cast. My buddy said he felt a big one, and as he fought it and brought it out of the deep hole we were fishing it just was an orange orb that grew bigger and bigger. It wasn't a huge trout, but definitely big, and it fought.

but yeah, my two favorite spots...i may not catch anything bigger than 8-10 inches but they may be brookies, and they may be natural. To me, that is way better than a slob stocker.

yeah, i hear ya. That's where I am now. Soon i'll be moving to nw philly, MUCH closer to Valley Creek

and the Wissahickon, for that matter. As long as there aren't major fishkills that can sometimes hold some trout for a month or two, and definitely some bass
