Anyone here familiar with Saabs?

Got a guy who wants to trade me a 91 saab 9000 spg for my ae86 I have for sale. I know nothing on these cars, and yes I'm going to do some research, but wanted to see if anyone here was familiar with them. All I know on this one is it's manual, turbo, 4 door, sunroof, new starter, brakes, axles, tires, coil packs, shifter assembly, struts, and exhaust. Clutch is a couple years old. He's swapping the newer "aero" leather seats in and will include a new turbo as well. Obviously this sounds like a no-brainer trade that I shouldn't pass up, and I'm quite interested, but like stated, I know nothing on these cars. I'm just looking for a decent comfy daily. So hmm?

Eh. My brother had one he had like a 04 saab 9-3 and he hated it. Always had problems with it, very costly maintence (idk if thats a factor with you) but with him it was. It hit his pockets hard. He now has a 07 accord and loves it. He said he would never buy a saab again and not a day goes by where he misses it. But then again all saabs could be different. Your trade is a whole new generation

an 04 9-3 is completely different. it had the GM engine and everything and they didnt get the problems worked out until 05. thats like apples to oranges. i dont know much about the older 9000s so i can't exactly speak on them specifically. for the most part (i dont know about the older ones) they're pretty reliable cars. i'm more familiar with the mid-late 90's+ 9-3 and 9-5s, though. check out saabcentral.com, theres some pretty good info over there.

I'll give that site a look when I get home from work. Oh yeah, forgot to mention the saab has 240k on it which kind of scares me.

9000s are EXCELLENT vehicles that will run forever with proper maintenance. They can also be made fairly quick.

240k is a lot, but it probably has been fully rebuilt (with the exception of the block). I would have it looked over closely, but wouldn't right it over with that mileage.

put it this way, the best decision GM made was to drop Saab. Most backwards cars out there. I would avoid at all cost

I've always read older Saabs were great with proper maintenance. I have never owned one, but have a soft spot for them. Newer saabs are hit or miss-

I found his craigslist ad and he said the motor needs to be "freshened" up. He said the previous owner was a tech and kept up on routine maintenance but I have no idea what other work the motor has had.

Here's the car

my experience with a Saab 900...something as simple as changing the belts was a nightmare since the belts are up against the firewall..the car is def an engineering marvel

I may shy from this deal. Been trying to find a mkii jetta or another 240 to daily once the corolla sells.
