Okay well last week I got hired as a Volunteer FireFighter and so far I am loving it. I am going to be trying to get into Fire School soon to take Fire 1 .
I just started workin for Levittown 32. Is there any one else on here that is a firefighter?

I was a firefighter for a few years...I guess I'm technically still a firefighter but I'm no longer active and haven't been for some time now. The firehouse I ran with was like a big popularity contest where everyone was on a power trip. It didn't make sense to me to run with another company if I couldn't get to the calls on time so I found other ways to help my community. I may get back into it at some point again.

Have fun in fire school, after all the "class room" stuff, it kinda fun. Hopefully your company is different then mine was.

Good luck, be safe!

Well my fire house has a hall we rent out and yesterday we did a wedding and me being the new guy I had to clean all the dishes. But really i am liking the fire house. It's keeping me out of trouble and I am helping a lot with Fun Risers. I just can't wait to be able to ride the ladder. Really I must say it's really changing my life.

My boy just started at one in Trenton. He was top of his class but took about 2 yrs for him to get hired. That's how long the waiting list was. My cousins husband is one and with OT they make some loot (over 100k). Plus it's a chill spot we went to play pool, BBQ and wash cars.

Im a volunteer fire fighter also and Im going through all my training right now. When your the new guy they will make you do all the lower end work and be lucky they havent made you clean bathrooms yet. If I was you get your Fire 1 and EMT atleast and go to college and finish your degree. After that you can get your Fire 2, Hazmat, etc. Remember be safe and always think before doing something on a call. Its a rewarding experience and if your lucky enough to get a paid spot take it!

My brother in law was one... He went to school for a long ass time to do it. Like 3 years I think, but I might be wrong, and when he finally got hired (salary), he hated it, and quit 6 months later. I don't know why he quit, all he said was it wasn't like what he expected. Its funny though because he was passionate about it for so long, and then when he landed a career in it, something was a big enough let down to make him quit.

I'm in the same boat as you, except I'm not a volunteer right now, I wish i was though haha. I missed the fire school a couple months ago so I gotta wait till it opens again and try to get hired as a volunteer, I have two friends in the same volunteer house so I'm hoping they'll help me out. I actually put my application in for the state firefighting thing, not sure when anything is going down with that but they used the $35 check I sent with the application already. Might be trying to get emt certified this summer if i can figure out where to take the courses. I've been wanting t become a firefighter for years

I did it for nearly 10 years and absolutely loved it. I started when I was 17 in high school and it progressed from there. It's a brotherhood that can't really be explained. I'm sure military personnel as well as LEO's and others know what I am talking about. It's those people you run the calls with, hang out on duty nights with, train with, and joke with that could end up saving your life - or you could end up saving theirs.

I joined for the rush and came out of it with so much more meaningful, life changing experiences.

Due to school, work, and trying to have a life I've had to resign from active duty. I'm looking to join a local Fire Co. as a photographer at the moment, but even time for that is running low.

Anyway. Enjoy it. Be safe. Have fun. And make sure you keep your training going man.

I was a volunteer for 6 years and loved it. I have to say it def changed my life and my outlook on things. Around here (small town) all we have are paid EMT's, all fire is volunteer.

I started in a junior program when I was in middle school and grew up at the dept. Taking every course I could. Once I was old enough (18) I took the fire essentials course and got my fire/EMS certifications. It was like a giant family, everyone looked out for one another.

Then when 9/11 hit all hell broke loose, I will never forget the chaos all the dept.'s went through. We had actually already sent 1/3 of our volunteer fire up to help and I was on the second tier to go up. Then they called off all the searcher's. But I will never forget how everyone pulled together to help those around us. I think all EMS has changed since then. They get alot more credit now then they did. People respect them now for the danger they put themselves in.

I remember that. What a day that was at the fire house. We were watching on TV like "oh ****, should we go, should we go?" Called the Chief, who showed up, and we started packing. We were told to go home, get enough clothes to last us 2 weeks, and come back to the station. We joined the Montgomery County Taskforce that was readying to head up there if the call came. We were told by NYC authorities not to just head up there as so many did 'cause it was, as you said, chaos. They wanted a list of what trucks we had and what personnel. They would call us specifically if they needed this vehicle or that. The call never came. Talk about a helpless feeling, knowing your brothers are up there fighting for their lives trying to save people, and there's nothing you can do to help them...

I really dont care much for alot of the Levittown Firefighters. NO OFFENSE. I never really heard much about 32 so maybe that place is different. But alot of these guys are drunken idiots that think they can get away with anything because they are Fire Fighters. I.E. shooting up dumpsters with a handgun. Drinking parties at the firehouse with underage drinking. Getting underage girls drunk and taking them out back. Ive seen all that and worse around this area

Did it for 3 years with newtown loved the **** then life came to a crash with with work and g.f sister passing leaving a newborn and a 10year old and lost my job last year but now i am back some things looking up. I will rejoin a dept. when i get settled into a home, but i do help them out when ever needed. Most vol dept. always have some group that makes them look bad and it sucks.
