Tst: School me on Booking flights

Im looking to fly from Philly to Jacksonville, florida sometime between the 14th/15th of march, and return on the 21st.
Ive been flying by myself since i was 6 years old because my parents lived in different states(IE:Florida/NJ),but they usually booked my flights for me because i was young.
I just have some questions
  • Is it worth it to go onto sites like expidia, priceline etc?
  • If so,what site do you recommend and why

Im a broke college student so im trying to get the best deal.

I've been using a site called momondo. They search all of the sites at once and give you the results. Got me flights as low as $450 round trip to ireland.

Edit: Kayak seems to be the same type too.

The price of flights are based on crazy ass computer algorithms. Basically, they look at past flights (same time of year, same destination) and see how many people booked that flight and when they booked it. The computer changes the rate accordingly. In the end, any money for a seat is better than an empty seat. So yes, sometime you get a great deal last second, sometimes that flight is full and you don't get a seat.

Deals on flights come and go. One day they will be cheap, and the next they will be $100 more.

I'm a travel agent for AAA, and have been with them for the past 5 1/2 years. First I will say there is no trend to follow on air fare pricing. The airlines sell 9 seats to a class, once that class sells out the pricing changes. So typically the person next to you on a flight most likely didn't pay the same as you, unless you happen to book at nearly the same time.

Those sites all work, but they're all the same. If it's a site that direct sells flights via Apollo or viewpoint, no matter where you book it, it will be the same price as if you called the airline yourself. After 9/11, all airline commissions were taken away as well as discounts, so whoever says they get discounts is lying. If they purchase tickets ahead of time at a lower fare, they can then charge you whatever they want. Most of the time it will be lower then the base fare from the airlines at the time of booking to ensure you book with them, rather then with the airlines.

I'm working tomorrow so I will check to see what the fares are for that time period. What's the exact dates/times you want, and also how many people are traveling?

he already booked the flight! lol

also, I hear that what day you travel can change the price too. either way good stuff man. 200 for a trip to florida is decent. it's only a couple hours anyway lol.

I remember back in 06' I got a trip to lake tahoe from philly, connecting in reno for $450 round trip, but that was in 06' haha.

Foolin, I have never booked a flight myself, until last night my girlfriend and I booked Southwest. We looked at all the sites and were thinking, well the baggage fees are a little crazy it seems like.

Baggage fees are just another way for them to try and charge you at check in,but give my man a nice tip whose bringing your stuff in at philly, and no baggage fees for you.

Also last time we flew delta, they tried to charge, but the guy took care of me. I always flew united and never got a bag charge
