You have a lot of options actually. If the engine is coming out and apart, you can do a 1.8l block or stick with the 1.6. The added displacement will help turbo spool as well as low end grunt.
I have an LS block/crank you can use that is bored .20 over ready to accept pistons. The 89mm LS crank will usually see 15-20 ft. lbs torque everywhere in the powerband compared to a B16 crank. Either block choice is up to you and your budget. You would need a Golden Eagle LS-Vtec kit which are around $225. Your turbo is good for about 300 whp. If you wanted to upgrade the setup while it is all apart, the sky is the limit. Auto to manual conversion is no problem. Depending on if you want LSD there are alot of options. Good bang for your buck is GSR trans with ITR LSD. The ITR diffs can be had around $250-$400 and will bolt up to the GSR ring gear as well as match the countershaft. LS/B16 diffs will not accept ITR LSD because of different ring gear/countershaft. Your stuck shelling out $600 + for an aftermarket LSD for B16/LS. B16 Would have shorter gears than GSR, I wouldn't even waste my time with LS gearing. You can run open diff as well. It all comes down to how much power you want out of the car and what your budget is. Your turbo is the limiting factor here at 300whp. If you want 450-500 hp on pump gas we can do that too. I can have you spend $3000 or $15000, depends on what you want to do.
