simple question

Can anyone shed some light on why people when asked "what is done to your car" respond "It's stock" with a smirk on their face, when clearly the car isn't stock because of the obnoxiously loud exhaust and the loud blow-off valve that you just made go off 16 times in a period of 5 seconds. I mean you would you buy a house and not invite anyone to it because you don't want anyone to know, it's a secret. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated, because i never got the memo to start being a cocky a$$ about my "fast" car that isn't anything special as there are tons of it.

because people with fast cars typically have a small penis. would you ask someone how big their dick is?

yes, but that still doesn't explain why they say it with a huge cocky smirk on their face, wouldn't that only provoke people.

because maybe they don't want to? yeah, its short and simple but maybe some people like to keep whats done to themselves, they have every single right to not say anything. Maybe they race for money somewhere? Maybe the don't want thieves to steal their stuff? Maybe the hook up their car for themselves and don't show it off to the world? who knows

how many licks does it take to the center of a tootsie pop, no one will ever know......it's really the smirk that gets to me, not the actual response, but oh well can't do anything about it.

I've been a smirker before, but it's usually accompanied by "Not much" instead of "Nothing." I make a judgement call: Do I want this person to know about all the legal, and potentially illegal, modifications that are done to my car? Will they know what I'm talking about? Are they just trying to get a DSM joke in? Were you just talking smack about your v8 and then astounded when my lil AWD I4 was nothing but a four-wheeled burnout by the time you made it to the other end of the track?

However, if someone recognizes my car for what it is, or shows some form of interest (or has their tail inbetween their legs in the pits afterward, aha), I have zero qualms about talking your face off about every aspect of the car world there is to chat about, including the extensive modifications done to my car.

Besides, only people with flatbeds steal DSMs. Take it.

It's easier to say it's stock if you have a highly modified car, it gets real annoying that's why I always say intake and exhaust.

I do agree with OP. When someone asks me "what's all done here" I'll joke at first and say "stock" to come off like one of those ass'es but then immediately rattle off my mod list. I'll then of course ask them what they all have done and hopefully break into conversation about CARS at the CAR meet we're all attending.

On the other side of things I kinda do understand why some wanna keep it on the DL with what they have done do to thieves and people wanting to race. Last thing you wanna do is give someone a grocery list of reasons to steal your sh**.

Keeping that in mind, and understand its basically impossible to not look like a dick when refusing to give your mod list. Of course also keep in mind there's just some dicks out there that have no respect.

i completely understand it's annoying to say a really huge mod list(i don't have one so I'm guessing it would be), but if you have a few things why not just say it. I just want to know the power you're making nothing much more then that and maybe just to compare my car vs their's. I mean it's all about just having fun, and some friendly competition sometimes, is it not?

I've also noticed that Subaru owners(I'm being biased because i own one) seem to be a generally nicer crowd, then other car owners, then again that is just with my own experiences.

not about who is faster(that can be settled at the track) and especially who spent more money(everyone knows modifying isn't a cheap hobby, i just want the general knowledge.

It's real annoying if you have a big mid list and most people who ask are dickbags and are pretty clueless and annoying.

I've ALWAYS said my cars were either close to stock, Or just simple bolt ons, When truly all of them were over 500whp, And 3 of them over 600-700whp.

When you are asked that question and you have a very highly modified car, You find out that half way through your speach, You lost the person who asked the question to begin with. OR, After you spend an hour going over the entire car and build, They ask you something completly stupid like, COOL, So what kind of BOV IS THAT!? Or, They ask you something that is completly un-related to anything that is on topic.

It's just very , very annoying.

Most people think '' intake , header, exhaust '', is alot of mods, So when you are explaining everything that goes into building a car that makes over 700whp, You then realize that you are not only wasting your time and energy, but also the person who asked the question, aswell.
