Chineese Automaker Geely to purchase Volvo

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5BM0WO20091224
Quote:
BEIJING/DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) said on Wednesday it is nearing an agreement to sell its Volvo Swedish cars unit to China's Geely in a deal that underscores China's arrival as a major force in the global auto industry.
The is tragic is to many ways.

Yeah, I'll probably never even consider a Volvo after this because I'm sure they'll take one of the safest available brands and completely change the vehicles to do away with all safety related components.

North America is hardly the audience Volvo thrives in or for. They have set and reset the bar on safety countless times. And these innovations have trickled to every manufacturer and typically become safety requirements across the board.
Companies based out of China have continually hung themselves well below what the majority of Americans would consider even mediocre safety standards.

It's a ****ing oxymoron or whatever-

Totally incorrect - the BULK of Volvo's profit is from NA - the volume is small but they make a ton of money here (drive up here in d-town or over on 30 on the Main Line and you will see tons of them)

Sad Sad Day - Certainly won't ever buy a volvo made after the take over

Look at Volvo numbers. Only Land Rover, Jaguar, Saab and Mini sell less.

Volume does not equal profit.

Yes they are a SMALL house, but they do well here, they are one of the few that has been up consistently for the past 6 months.
