learn me an apple

what one should i buy, id think the pro is better, but the only thing i see better is the pro has 8 gig expandable memory and aluminum case, both of which i dont think is worth 200 more.

it does have memory card readers which is ok, but isnt better than an led monitor.

the cheaper one has more memory, and an led screen, which im pretty sure is better.

There both great machines. Apple is something you want to make sure your ready for though. To some people they are not as "simple" to use. Cant really upgrade them alot. But on the other hand, you dont really need to upgrade them, and in 5 years, theyll still outrun new windows laptops. I love my imac, im tryna get a laptop as well.

microcenter has a $200 mail in rebate on new macbooks right now...

the screen on the macbook and the macbook pro are both good, but the macbook pro screen is better. it has a wider color gamut (range) and is also brighter. these aren't things you'll miss with the macbook in every day use.

you nailed the rest of the differences pretty well. the new macbook is very similar to the macbook pro aside from a few things. they're also usually similarly priced, but the $200 mail in rebate tips the scales IMO. i bought one a couple weeks ago. its my first mac and i'm really liking it.

I'm going to have to disagree here. Look at the specs of the one in his link. There are plenty of Windows based laptops using the same/similar hardware/specs. There are also plenty using much faster hardware then that in his posted link.

Yea, until they get virus'. Ive had all windows PC's, they eventually get laggy, slow, ect. And you gotta run programs to "fix them up". With my Imac, it runs as fast as it did from day one. Im not a computer wizz, but i can tell the difference.

that link comparing them is a little misleading...

the trackpad is the same on both, so is the included software. both batteries are the same and in real world use will last 5+ hours. the pro has a SD card slot as well as a firewire port, the regulary macbook doesn't.
both screens are led backlit, the macbook pro screen is better though.

most agree that the aluminum case on the pro is preferable as far as looks, and it is also more durable. i've read numerous places that the glossy white injection molded case of the regular macbook gets dented and scratched easily. i've been pretty careful with mine, and haven't experienced this, but maybe with time i will.

lay off the gay porn and you should notice a difference

I own both a macbook and an HP touchsmart. Similar specs and they both run great equally as fast as the day i purchased them.

went to best buy, they didnt give me as much credit as i was hoping for, spent 2 hours in there looking around, went to a friends house then went to eat, went back to best buy to show him the computer and i just didnt feel like waiting so i went and bought a macbook pro, the guy was very informative and was an apple rep/salesman. the bb web site said the macbookpro had an lcd and the macbook had a led. well that was the only thing i didnt like about the pro, but the site was wrong. it even has a plastic protector on the screen. the sd slot, illuminated keyboard, firewire, and pretty much everything else blew the regular macbook out of the water for 200 bucks more. i have a feeling im going to get used to this fast. never thought id ever own a mac, used them throughout elemetary and middle school and hated them, used a big ass imac in bucks cc and was hooked.

they are both lcd screens, and are both led backlit. i think you pretty much listed all the differences... whether or not it blows the macbook out of the water would depend on your needs i suppose.

for a $200 difference i agree, probably worth it to just get the pro. however, as i said above, there is a $200 rebate on the macbook bringing it down to $800 through microcenter which makes it a steal compared to the pro IMO.
not to mention i got an 'open box' one which was an extra $100 off, and was brand new anyway .

otherwise, your best bet on buying is to go to the Apple store in DE to save paying tax, and if you're a student or teacher applying the educational discount as well.

you have to set up right clicking in your system preferences for it to work.

i was thinkin about driving to delaware, but it really didnt seem like it was worth the hassle. i guess i payed 72 bucks in convenience. now if i was saving like 200 or more dollars maybe id go to delaware. ill just pack a lunch for a few weeks to make up for it.
