Oil question

I like many people on here usually change my own oil. Ive heard a few things recently about our engines getting starved of oil with alot of hard cornering due to lateral Gs. I hear u can offset this problem by adding another half quart or so.

Im just curious who knows anything about this, and how much oil do you guys put in your Subies? I have the 2.5L so idk if it varies from u 2.0 guys. but any info is helpful. Thanks

I had this problem all of the time in the honda. I would put an extra half quart in to counter the effects. I guess its a double edged sword.

I'd imaging your oil pan is a little more advanced then mine and it sould prevent this better. If you're constantly cornering at high speeds or autoXing go with a dry sump system. Thats assuming you even get your car around the turns fast enough to require one. lol

are you losing oil pressure around turns? Get a guage and see...

I put 4.5qts in my STi. Doesn't lose any of it either. I have RP in it now but it's due soon. I'll probably put Castrol in it this time.

I fill it to the full line with a GOOD quality oil. Unless its a full out track car with a full suspension setup, proper alignment, and a big ol set of sticky slicks you have nothing to worry about. Take everything you read on nasioc with a grain of salt.

1st). I ran Royal Purple & Mobile One for a long time. I was always a quart low at 5000 mile oil changes. I KNOW my rings were bad. I switched to Castrol edge before the FP68HTA went on and it didn't lose AS MUCH. Not even half a quart. Once break in is done NOTHING but AMSOIL is touching my motor.
TOO EFFING MUCH TO REPLACE. (possibly the synthetic Rotella... gotta talk to Ryan about it)

2nd). I VIVIDLY remember a night at Area1320s old shop. I was (foolishly) trying to tell the guys that they were nuts and that Mobil1 was the isht.
Ryan was doing an oil change on a silver Bugeye. It HAD Mobil1 in it. He had me stand close to the motor, told me to LISTEN as the RPMs fall off, then he revved the motor. I heard PISTON SLAP clear as a bell. The Mobil1 in there was still relatively NEW. It was an EMERGENCY kinda change. Like Get that isht out ASAP. Once the AMSOIL was in he did the same thing. NO SLAP.

3rd). I remember riding in Honest Bobs Uber Vagen, He told me how he could see the difference in how his oil TEMP gauge reacted when he went to the AMSOIL. Ben, IMA let you elaborate on that one.....

My WRX ate Mobile 1 like it was candy. I would have to top it off with at least 1.5 quarts in the 3k mile mark, the best part was that it wasent leaking it or burning it. It just disappeared. That tells me something is wrong.

I have run castrol synthetic and that was better at oil consumption.

I had the best results with Redline and Amsoil. I ran Amsoil for the last 5 or so oil changes. Awesome stuff.

Also for whatever its worth with the Mobil 1 and Castrol Synthetic I could tell that I was approaching 3k miles just by monitoring my oil temp gauge. The oil temps would run 15 degrees hotter under normal driving. With the Redline and Amsoil the temp increase between oil changes was nearly non existent. Recently I've been running the Amsoil in 8k mile intervals, I may loose a quart of oil in that time.
In this thread.

Amsoil is liquid gold.

I LOVE Valvoline dino oil. Plain Jane 10w30 works great.

here is the latest oil comparison that Amsoil did. They dont have RP on there but feel free to check out the gear oil comparison that did have RP. RP failed horribly
http://www.amsoil.com/comparison/motor-oil.aspx

that comparison is done with Amsoil ATM. Which is DESIGNED for turbocharged vehicles and is the ONLY Amsoil motor oil we put in Subarus

I know every guy with a wrench has an opinion on oil, but I use 'German' castrol syntec in my STi.

I autocross it occasionally, and I drive fairly aggressive.

I get my oil analyzed by Blackstone Labs and the results always come back good.

That said, GC is readily available at Autozone, it's not foolishly expensive, and everyone loves it over at bobistheoilguy.com so that's what I use.
