Looking for a car.... One of THOSE threads.

Yea... so I am starting one of these threads. What of it?

ANYWHO... I have crunched some numbers, and figured, I can afford a car around $13k. Now, here are some requirements that I am looking for:

FWD/AWD - The winters in NE (and AWFUL snow removal) doesn't really allow for RWD.

Standard/Auto trans Doesn't matter. I can drive either.

Body style - If its a sedan, hatchback, or coupe, doesn't matter. No trucks or SUVs. Wagons only if its a WRX.

Motor I would like to stay N/A, but if the right deal comes along, it won't matter. I would like something decent on gas. No hybrids though.

Now, my choices:

Mazda 3i
Mazda 6
VW Rabbit
VW Golf
VW Jetta
Acura TL (a TAD over my price range, but like, $1k-2k more)

Any others to look into?

My brother will sell you his 06 Mazda 6 v6 (lots of 6s lol). It has 50k miles on it. The trans was replaced at 35k. Currently it burns about 1qt oil per 1000 miles. It will probably have a new engine soon since the people at Mazda are sooooooo helpful.

Wow. My buddy has an 06 MS6, never had any issues with that. Few other friends have a base 6i, without these problems either.

Your bother seemed to have bought a lemon.

I would consider getting the WRX as it would be your best option for the ****ty weather you get in New England.

My suggestion would definitely be a WRX. If you plan on keeping it stock you will have very few if any problems given its condition. Speaking from personal experience I daily drove a WRX with 105,000 on the clock when I got it and drove it to 150,000 miles with VERY few issues, so don't let mileage worry you to much. Only major repair I had to perform was a clutch and even doing that was relatively pain free. Turbo + AWD doesn't exactly equal great MPG's but it was a very comfortable ride, and a pleasure to drive in any weather.

Not to sound completely bias but I think a WRX is your obvious choice. Or, a forester XT. If you want to get fancy check out RS25.COM and check out the swapped GC8's also.

S40 might be a good pick - could also get an 03/04 S60 T5 in that price range.

Mine has been excellent.

260hp/260trq right outta the box and 30mph highway.

I've thought about Volvo's, just don't know a lot on realibilty and that such of these cars. Good? Solid platform? I like their looks.

Rather stay away from swapped cars.

And I know RWD is doable, with the proper tires, but thats just more money to have to spend. Plus, there are only a few RWD cars that I actually REALLY like.

even with awd you still need the proper tire. without grip youre just spinning 4 wheels instead of 2

The WRX is the obvious choice, but I'd look for a 2 dr 2.5 rs 5spd. You don't see them often and would be cheaper then the wrx. You'd have some left over money for mods. Plus tracking down rare cars is fun. Of the other choices you listed, I like the GTI/golf.
