Shifter, work on suspension, like you said strut bars/lcas/etc. Maybe new seats, something comfy? My cousin had an LS head with crower cams, titanium valve springs and retainers that he sold for under $300 so if you look around you can find some deals.

I'd say work on the suspension first. I had a b & m shifter in my 92 civic and it took away too much of the shifting feel. I thought the stock shifter felt much better..

Zune HD? I can't see dumping a lot of money into an 89 hatch, but that's just me!

i have suspension already, already have tint, no reason to powder coat anything.
my thoughts are short shift kit, knob, and a rear strut bar

Do you have drum brake rears or swapped disks? You could look into getting disk brake rears off an integra. Great and cheap upgrade. Would definitely fit under your price range.

You can always give the money back to your parents in a card, and help them out with bills/things around the house. Or pay bills with it, yourself? No use in dumping it into a car when you'll never see that back out of the car on re-sale anyways.

I wouldn't buy any of that stuff. None of them alone will do anything for your car. Do it all at once or don't do it.
The cheapest things you can get that improve a car are tires or a valentine 1 radar detector. Neither one can be had for $300. 89 civic is a cool car though. I sometimes have this dream that I built the first 200mph street legal civic. |

basically when i got the car the springs were cut all around on coilovers, i had 200$ in my pocket and needed to raise the car to go back to working, so i bought drop springs, took the coil adjusters out and put drop springs in to raise it up...it was a quick fix
