Car problems

I don't know if this is the best forum to ask but I haven't found too many Subaru tech forums so here it goes:

I have a 1987 Subaru gl-10 turbo wagon. A few days ago it would not start, it has had a problem that has been causing the check engine light on but we couldn't figure out what it was as the code given via the ECU wasn't too specific or helpful. It wasn't running much differently either. So when it refused to start we checked spark there doesn't seem to be spark, after that we pulled the distributor cap and checked that.......the center contact was only arcing after the key turned off so that doesn't seem right. It has gas the fuel pump is working, its in time and the belts are good. Tried to put a working dist. cap and that did nothing. I'm pretty much stumped and have no idea of what it could be. Anyone know what else I could check to help diagnose/have suggestions to what it could be?

Hmm, not familiar with that particular car, but I'm going to throw the obligatory "check the grounds in the engine bay" out there.

You can't really debug a car online. There are sooo many things that can cause the same symptoms. Air, fuel, spark. If you have all 3 you should have fire. Fire = combustion = working motor. You are missing one.

Just for kicks, did you check your injectors, filters, fluids, belts, starter...

Also what code was your car running?

Code 23 - Open or shorted airflowmeter circuit was what i was pulling before it refused to start but the manual I have doesn't show where or what circuit that is. Also I've said before it has no spark..........Thinking its the distributor but dont know how to tell without slapping a confirmed working one in there. Doubt its the coil sense we put a working coil in and its not dist cap as we put a confirmed working one in.

Also fluids, belts, filters etc all look find and its in time.

take timing cover off and have some one crank the car. if the cam doesnt move, broken belt. just dont do a visual inspection if its there. check your maf/ map sensor for power

check your voltage to your MAF like said above. If not that, maybe tps or crank positioning sensor? Does your dizzy still arc?
