Its not effecting me. I do think they should go back to work though & try to work things out. The workers are abusing this since they have the power to effect transportation in SE-PA.
I drove by the septa company in Conshohocken around 1230am & might I just say it was disgraceful. They were not sending a clear message to the people driving by. It looked like one big party. They were dressing in thuggish clothes, standing next to a trashcan on fire while blasting rap music REALLY loud. I thought I was driving through N Philly for a minute. I do like rap music, but c'mon, there is a way better message you could be sending the people so they have your backs.

They should fire the employees on strike and hire those who are already unemployed. Selfish bastards....

unions my friend. cant do that.
plus i dont know of many people that would cross a union picket line as a scab. Edit: Oh yeah, its effecting me by lengthening my morning commute by about 20 min a day so far. I havent seen backups like this on 95 for a while. Other than that, doesnt bother me too much. |

Doesn't affect me at all. But I'd totally be a scab.

Doesn't affect me at all really. The only thing I can think of is that Michelle complained when she said there were more cars on the road during her morning commute.

todays unions are the downfall of the wok force. I can see why they came about back when employees were treated like dirt but these days that crap doesnt happen.

Traffic is sucking, but I say who cares still. I get paid to drive to work, but serious, Septa is broke, and cant afford what the employees want. Remember these union employees are paid pretty good and have good benefits. In a struggling economy you cant ask a company in the red for a massive increase like they are. Septa is in major debt, they cant give out anymore.
Now I don't care who I piss off. I used to be a union electrician. Septa employees don't want to work, fine. Pay someone who is more then willing to take their job for less without the union dipping into it. You can hire smart, hardworking people for the same hourly wage and give them good benefits for less. Non union people who want to work and care about their jobs. They wont have to pay the unions or be strong armed, and then they will finally be able to fire a damn drunk or drug addict with out arbitration, rehab fees. There are plenty of good people who would love to be working right now. |

I also like some of the interviews on TV. Where the guy looks like a total hood, and when asked a question his response is filled with slang like "we's, dem, axed and more". Show me your worth it, be professional. I would love to not go to work, dress like a bum and tell my boss "wes need more money"

It's a skilled job. Most of the people on this forum, while yes, they're mechanics, wouldn't know what the **** to do when it came to a bus, and wouldn't be given time to get acclimated. You want to be hired? Go cross the lines and go for it. They'll put you RIGHT on the floor, no training, go to it. Wait til you throw your back out putting an alternator in a bus.

The cost of living has gone up for everyone. If you are a government employee, tax payer funded(SEPTA) employee, teacher, etc....it won't affect you. You will strike, and the government will plunder my wallet and savings accounts to make sure you get paid, regardless if there is enough to feed myself or pay my own bills after the financial raping.

The government ALREADY plundered your wallet and GAVE the money to SEPTA. This is the point. SEPTA HAS your money, but they want to keep it in their upper management which is overpaid.

Out for more then 5 days with out a doctors note and you get fired, wow that must really suck. When most people who are really sick for that long they usually go to the doctor or hospital. 5 days... how is that a disadvantage?
150K a year for management of a company that large, that's pretty low as far as salary in concerned for a union based outfit. And if you have a grievance you get days off, sounds like a party to me. 3 sick days a year isn't horrible, though the average is 5, but hey at-least you get paid sick days. Not to mention you guys were still working, still had benefits, still have a retirement. How would you enjoy to truly out of work, instead of striking? How many people were laid off this year, how many companies cut back on pensions, 401K and cost of living raises? Meanwhile Septa is getting by on tax dollars and appropriated funds to cover losses and then you want a raise over the normal cost of living raise. 11% for 3 years when the national average is 2.5-3% annually. I hope they don't work it out and the "scabs and rats" who just want to make an honest living have a chance, get the company running again, and save million upon millions with out the unions hand in the pot. |
