VW/Audi Techs - Need Help
2003 VW GTI 1.8t Check Engine light is on - This is kinda strange... When I dropped it off at the dealer this morning, the light wasn't on but it is now... ugh!! Passenger Inner Tie Rod has Play Passenger Side outer CV axle boot is leaking grease VIN: 9bwde61j924067047 My question to you is this... Are there any certified techs here that want to make some extra cash and can do this work for less than what the dealership is asking? They want $314 to replace the axle boot, $259 to replace the tie rod, and $97.83 to diagnose the check engine light. That totals $670.83 all together. The car has 74,000 miles on it and is also going to need a timing belt / water pump done soon too. This is getting expensive and with the holidays around the corner, I'm getting worried. Is it safe to drive the car for a little while with it like this? Anyone? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. I will pay CASH. Please let me know asap!

TST Ruined My Life!

My cousin graduated UTI 2 years ago and has been working for Garnet VW outside West Chester since. I've trusted him with my car in the past and has done good work. I'll call him this weekend and see if he has the time.
There is also a guy that used to work at Coley Pontiac in Exton until they closed that was referred to me on the GTO forum back in Feb. He isn't VW certfiied I don't think but I'm sure he can do it. He has a lift and a very nice garage at his home (Eagle, PA off 100). He is working full time on his own now. He fixed my GTO after my co-worker wrecked it. Insurance quoted $6000 and he did it for $1800. Granted there was used parts as I bought a front clip but his labor was a great deal, he kept me informed the whole way, and I haven't had any issues since. I would go back in a heartbeat, luckily my car hasn't had any major issues. His name is John Piefer 610-321-0723. Just tell him that Jason with the black GTO referred you to him.

lol at 100 bucks to diagnose. Take that to a autozone it will cost you 0 dollars. The CV boot can be replaced for about 100 bucks + 20 dollars in parts.
You could drive it. The CV boot is just going to get axel grease all over your ****. I'd get around to it sooner than later, but if you are strapped for cash you could wait it out. The tie rod end could also wait and will be cheaper to fix than what the dealership charges. You can get the parts for that for around 70 dollars.
