Quick Pointers for shooting a party

A friend of mine asked me to shoot a party he's dj'ing with 1000+ people and although i'm not a noob to photography I've never done anything with such hard lighting conditions. It'll be mostly of this guy dj'ing and some of the party itself.

I'm using an XTi with on camera flash. I think anything over 400 ISO in dark conditions gives me noise so i got that part. Is there anything else you pro's would suggest?

Also which lens should I mostly shoot with (18-55 kit lens or 50mm 1.4)?

Any help would be appreciated I'm doing this friday night.

rent a flash, use a fast lens, and a wide angle lens to capture 1000 people in one photo

Yeah, basically what he said. On camera flash is horrible, and that kit lens is slow. So that 50 f1.4 is you're only choice. If you're getting paid for the job - or maybe your friend will cover the costs of renting a flash and some shorter lenses. 50 is going to be tough. I'd recommend something like an EF 28 1.8 or maybe even a Sigma 30 1.4.

you should only use the on board crapflash if you desperately need it haha. rent a flash and bounce if off the ceiling/walls for way better lighting.
