Design a Logo for Dry Carbon Wrap, please!!! Free 4x4 to winner!

We're looking for a logo for DryCarbonWrap. It will be used bordering the name.
It *might* also be used for the new, larger, offshoot company.

If something catches my eye, you'll get a 4'x4' piece of the carbon wrap. ($165 value)

I'm open to any ideas, but I'll toss a few ideas your way:
-Black, White, Gray, and #c80000 are my favorite colors.
-Commonly used tools of the trade are heatgun/hairdryer, razor knife, and a squeegee (click here for pics)
-Simple, clean vector-based graphics catch my eye.
-It has to be composed of simple shapes and colors.
-No gradients, shadows, bevels, or other photoshop effects. Looking for a clever logo, not a combination of canned effects, sorry.
-The only thing that can be patterned (not solid color) is subtle use of carbon fiber style.
-Using something resembling a sheet of vinyl, with a flex in it, with the carbon texture would be neat.

Let's see what you guys have.

You should probably just hire a professional that will work with you and create a logo worth more than a 4"x4" piece of vinyl.

Just saying

i didn't say it was a bad idea. BUT, i've seen professional logo development first hand. it costs more than $165, and takes time. this is a business' face, the first thing a person see's on your website, business card, sign out front, etc.

It'd be cool to, maybe, take the winning design from this site to someone and say, "i like this, but i want it buttoned up". you'll save money because you're cutting a lot of the back and forth and time spent going over revisions. of course some designers will just charge a flat fee regardless.

and you're right,
(please have william shatner read you the following)
i do have something to say about everything on here... the reason being, is... its a forum... where you... make comments... on topics... that people... post... for other... people...to... post comments... about...

over or under, i don't care

but i do mention it more on point of taking care of your business. cutting corners is what leads you to spending more in the future. i've seen it quite a bit in web development... people get a wham bam thank you ma'am website for a few grand and complain that it costs to much to update, doesn't do what they want it to do, looks like crap, hardly works, etc. same thing goes for a company's logo

not saying the logo's aren't going to be good... but its a toss up... for something so important as a company logo, i'd go to a professional who has done corporate identity projects before

I'm familar with professional work. I've worked as an art director, lead graphic designer, etc at several jobs. Two of my best friends work as lead designers in Nike's international division.
A logo is something simple. I'm looking for ideas here- I expect nothing to be perfect and handed to me in professional format.

I plan to do the following-
depending on the logo- i can either:
a: revise it myself, which i am very capable of doing.
b: send it to one of two said friends who I could pay.

basically- a great base idea here will get you $165 worth of vinly/shipping. You don't need to send me a zip file of a 300dpi, or vector format anything.
I want a neat idea.

Cutting a corner would be uploading a logo to my website as soon as its posted here. I've made clear I won't do that.

And dear god, I agree about the web development rant.

toss up is fine with me. I'll see what come's here, and go from there.
A good idea here, plus some work after will give me what I want.

well rather than involving myself into a "graphic design" conversation/argument ...ill contribute to the design idea, and it looks as though im the only one interested here..
it could obviously use some work...but its just a beginning design/idea.

its my general idea...im am going to continue working on it, and post up what ive come up with

i love the look of the background, but i didn't explain myself correctly.

i was looking for something like a logo on a white background- not a square image.
check out logopond.com for inspiration.

something like this:

i'm sitting here bored out of my mind so i guess i'll give this a try. one question though, you said you don't want gradients or shadows but your image above has both. i'm thinking you just mean no cheesy looking effects instead of no gradients or anything at all but i dunno. doesn't change much either way, but let me know asap so i can get something drawn up for you.

How about DCW: "Providing you with all your Carbon needs"

and just have a red background with that in carbon fiber "wrap"
