Jaime's Hotrod 1935 Ford Truck

Our friend Jaime is a 'car guy' in the sense that he loves rat rods/hot rods/customs. He can appreciate the turbo cars, but loves his oldschool stuff.

He brought his 'nice weather daily driver' to Davids to show us

It's a 1935 Ford Truck, with a Flathead Ford, and a Dodge Bed. He said he puts 3000 miles on it annually and loves it.

Here are some pics I took of it. Sorry about the ****ty background (trees/houses), it was all I had.

It's a relative thing -- he's not out going super fast.

I think just doing the rears are bad on my truck. I would think having to do the fronts would suck as much, if not more.

With as much as I love about this truck, there is an equal amount that I (not hate) dislike.

Vented four corner drum brakes, quick-change rear, lake style headers, 35 cab with a cleeeeeeeean 5" chop-- all awesome, all drool-worthy.

The truck just seems to have a major identity crisis. The Dodge bed is breaking my heart. I'd have no problem seeing a F1 or some other Ford bed on the truck, but a different make cab and bed is crossing some god forsaken lines. This is also where I'm getting the identity crisis; kustoms, billet/rat rods, etc. is all fine and dandy to have different make parts all over the car to complete it. Hot rods/traditionals on the other hand either try to stay as close to production line state as possible, or are customized but only using vehicle specific parts. The truck looks to have virtually all of the right parts to be classified perfectly as a hot rod, but then decided to go kustom and have a Dodge bed.

Bleh, sorry, long random rant.

Also, really don't like finished/painted interior while the exterior has a flat/primer look. Again, goes along with the theme of identity crisis. I was at first thinking that it may still be awaiting paint but after seeing a painted grill, how clean the finish is, and the interior-- I'm assuming the owner is calling this truck complete.

Final thing which is just a pet peeve, I really don't like/get/understand having lake style headers just to have it delete and exit on the side (not even under axle). I love lake style headers, and with deletes or flanged for exhausts is super cool too. I don't merely understand though why you would delete it only to have it exit a few feet later on the side anyway.

All in all, I really like this truck. I know I sound like I'm attacking it a lot more than loving it but it is only because that is with me knit-picking everything I can muster up that I don't like. It's hard to do one of these right and he's super close to perfect, and I would love to see it perfect. The chop is so clean all the way up to the rain gutters it's awesome, the frame, notch for lake pipe, and filler neck mounting is beautiful. It just almost looks like the owner got frustrated part searching and decided to use the first bed he found, and stumbled upon the complete dash and tossed it in.

Sorry for that mindless rambling, I absolutely adore these things.

I'll try toanswers these to the best of what he was saying as he went over the truck hehe

I guess the Ford Bed was beyond ruined when he got it. He had the dodge bed laying around, and used it simply due to the fact that it was rust free, and available.

It's actual paint, with a flattening agent in it. It's very smooth (polishable really) but it being 'flattened' gives it a satin look. Hard to describe.

Only reason it dumps where it does is due to rear suspension. Over the winter he's putting it back out the back. I asked him the same thing haha.

Hehe it's ok! Jaime really built this thing out of just being bored, but wanting something different to 'advertise' his business. He really wanted to make the thing as 'modern' as possible while keeping the oldschool kinda look. I don't think he gets hungup at all on the classifications of custom/hotrod//etc much at all, as he just is in it for his own enjoyment.

...I hear ya on the nitpicking though...I do the same thing with muscle cars ;)

I completely understand about the paint, just didn't want to make the ignorant, "when is he painting it?" comment or say that the paint is garbage. I just feel that the dash needs to have the same kind of treatment, and not black gloss clearcoat as it doesn't really flow or transition well.

I figured as much about the bed, I'm not really into the being anal about classification deal, figured I'd bring it up though in case he was seeking a target. I think I've been reading up and meeting too many old people lately that will fcuking lose it if you tell them you used Chevy metal to do a patch repair on a Ford panel.

Glad to hear about the exhaust, although I'm not a fan of it, the location is perfect (not too much showing, but not spitting onto the frame).

He really took his most time on the interior of it, and the heating system. Being that he does drive it, he said he couldn't stand being in crapbox. To be honest, I really don't mind the look of the paint...it's...interesting to say the least.

The only classifications he would worry about are in regard to beer I think hehe. He'd be able to tell ya those in a hurry.

That's annoying. It's kinda like import guys that hate LSx's in their cars for no other reason than to just hate them (and vice versa). I like neat, nice, and fast things....and I'm not to worried how they achieve it.
