Chevy Cobalt - power steering issues/consumer complaints
http://www.aboutautomobile.com/Compl...evrolet/Cobalt Just from reading through a few of these, it seems like it's not an uncommon issue. I, for one, am glad I'm getting rid of my Cobalt in a month. Be careful guys!

Well losing power steering isn't the end of the world as you can still steer the car. Sucks for those two that died.

Yea but for someone who doesn't understand that, its a problem. Imagine if you didn't even know what it was like driving a car without power steering, or knew what power steering even was for that matter (most people) and all of a sudden its really hard to turn and your doing 60mph?

I wasn't saying that power steering was fatal Sam, but recently I've been seeing more and more people say that Cobalts are safe and reliable cars. I moreso wanted people to be aware of the issue that was coming up on consumer reports. The car in previous models sucked because of all the bugs that they've needed to work out. I'm not sure what they've improved on by a parts/mechanics stand point but the problems that are being reported aren't being recalled and most delearships aren't diagnosing the problem.
The dealership thing brings up a whole other discussion - dealership vs. reliable shop for repairs but I'm not getting into that. If people are leasing or if they're really all for supporting American then they're probably going to go to their dealership to take advantage of promotions and such things. Kustom- never said the crash report did say power steering was at fault. The consumer report like was posted in a comment following the article that I happened to click on and see the complaints. I posted the crash article to show the back dstory of where I got the link. Again, I just wanted to make sure people were aware of the possibility of a defect. Rather have people be aware of it before putting money into the car

Whether it caused the crash or not its still a lawsuit waiting to happen since theres been no recall. I thankfully havent had problems with the power steering locking up while driving on my 06 SS, but I did have to have the entire steering column replaced about a year ago cuz it was making some horrible noises.
