Cops In Crosswalks

Just saw a report on NBC10 about "Cops in Crosswalks"

I believe it's in New Jersey only, but I could be wrong. So be careful!

Some cops are on duty and walking around like a regular pedestrian. However, they are using the crosswalks to catch people who don't properly yield.
They have a cop sitting elsewhere whom gets a signal that a specific car didnt yield properly, and calls it in to an officer down the road.

You will then get pulled over.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up!

here's an article on it-- this one is for South Jersey:

how?

a plain clothed officer walking across the street using a crosswalk does not count... they're not in the car with you saying "don't stop". its the law to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks regardless of whether or not you have a green light.

the cops aren't going to be making a dangerous situation by jumping out at the last second. they'll probably just be walking around the streets like a normal person and make attempts at crossing at crosswalks whenever they're by one.

i forget to yield as well though... but its probably smart to start thinking about that considering it is the law and it doesn't hurt you to stop as long as the people behind you are paying attention...

Yeah really, if anyone else did that in their regular jobs to create income you would be scamming. I understand the crisis at hand here but if you are doing it to make sure people properly yeild, patrol those spots where its a problem. Dont be an asshole and walk in the street until someone gets a ticket!! There is no reason but to find yet another way to charge you out the ass for something stupid. Fine, you didnt yeild at the crosswalk. Understandable. But when officer 5589 takes ten minutes to cross the street you can bet someones not going to wait. Entrapment is a great word for that. Police nowadays piss me off so much. I watched a cop last week coming to a redlight put his lights on and pull into wendys for drivethrough.... And on the way to seaside last week almost got run off the road by a cop who didnt want to wait for other cars to pass. I could go on all day....

Yes, they are still worth 5000 points.

15000 if you get them still holding hands with their partner...thats efficient!

I heard about this on the radio, mostly south jersey in the smaller towns. I drive Sweedesboro all week long, 10 x-walks in a quarter mile, grrr!

When is someone technically in the crosswalk? do they need to be in the street, or at the end of the curb?

And why dont the squishies get out of the way of the poundies? sounds backwards to me.

F-that, as a pedestrian, cars always have the right of way. Big heavy object, rolling at me with alot of mass makes me get out of the way anyday.

another money maker. this is why law enforcement is such a joke. they claim safety and protection, but are much more like tax collectors.

and before you start crying, yes, sometimes you need a cop when your house is getting robbed, or you get raped. but no one needs cops patrolling the cross walks and bull**** like that.

If there was possibly a huge issue with pedestrians getting hit at crosswalks or some other problem, I could see this. But aren't there much more important things they could be watching rather then this?

dude, when i was younger, a friend of mine and myself were on South Street and didn't cross at the light, and a female beat cop was trying to give us a jaywalking ticket! lol she definitely made us cross back, walk to the corner/light and cross the street appropriately or she was giving us tickets. it was hilarious.

So what I gather here is....if you hit the cop in the crosswalk it's double points with a booster?

They did start this because it was a problem, apparently 30 something people have gotten hit or some sort of injury due to poor yielding. Either way, I just put this up here to give you guys a heads up if your in those areas.
