What?! Negative, S4 bumpers and side skirts on a A4 are for a4 kids who wish they had a S4.

Why can't people be proud of their cars. An A4 with S4 badging is no different than an S4 debadged with an RS4 grill. Trust me. I had a B5 S4. Traded it in for my WRX. Love the car and be proud of it. Don't try to pose it as something it's not. I left my badges on. It's all part of the prestige... |

i think the RS4 grill looks better/cleaner. i am not all about a4 folks putting on s4 badges nor am i all about s4 folks putting on rs4 badges. i am sure the OP is proud of the car. doing a simple grill is not posing IMO. badges are not about prestige. if your car is about prestige to you, then IMO you are driving it for the wrong reason.

You have an M3. You are honestly telling me and everyone here that it had nothing to do with prestige? Be honest, why else would you buy an M3? Here: pres⋅tige –noun 1. reputation or influence arising from success, achievement, rank, or other favorable attributes. Isn't that what separates an M3 from a 330 and an S4 from an A4. Think hard before you try to fire back. I'm wearing my flameproof suit. |

your "flameproof suit" does not take away from the fact that your silly tone of pretentiousness is unwarranted. the copying and pasting of an online dictionary definition for prestige as if we are not aware what it means are laughable. there is nothing to think hard over. nor did i even suggest that there is anything to "prove" with what one drives. your take is that driving a certain car is supposed to make you feel special. the way you put it can be easily interpreted as your having mundane values. at the same time, you do mention buying an s class as a way to show of....hey, that's fine. btw, dbs's msrp is significantly over 200k. with just a handful of options and the premium that dealers put on them when they first could be ordered, the price was way over. there are several reasons i bought an m3. i will return the favor of your patronizing: do not jump to conclusions about someone b/c of what s/he drives. do not assume you know what or why something is. prestige is hardly what most use to describe owning and/or driving a car. sure, you can apply it to cars or other materialistic things. but in the end, as the saying goes, the driver makes the car not the other way around. sure, with a car, you can be happy or whatever you want to say, but you should be the same person without it. what has the m3 "done" for me? sure, it is a great part of a hobby many of us share. it has been a source of fun as well as stress relief at times, etc. if i want prestige, i will go read more great books and gain more knowledge; i will strive to be a better person; i will cherish human relationships and not be so dismissive of most; and, most importantly, i will fulfill the desire only a means to an end....b/c in the end, prestige sounds like such a lofty goal or achievement, but it's not. it is what you do with prestige that you have acheived or obtained. back on topic: OP, do what you want. to each, his/her own. if you like it, that is all that f'ing matters IMO.

I was being constructive with the OP. Us S4 fans are die hard fans that realize the flagship mark the S4 has made. There has been a constant struggle between Audi and BMW since the first M and S cars. The bi-turbo design of the car is inherent to it's prestige. Just like the straight 6 was second to none for BMW. Yes, prestige. It usually it comes with age and wisdom. Hence why I included the definition because you are still unclear of the meaning of the word, or perhaps the context of it. That is why Audi's and BMW's are the prestigious cars they are today, and haven't fallen by the wayside like a lot of other companies that no longer exist. As far as the M3, you did not answer a single question I asked regarding why you selected it over a regular 3 series. You went into this long diatribe about how I don't know anything and shouldn't assume why people buy the cars they do. I asked a simple question. It doesn't seem that hard. However, you were so adamant in pointing out my error in the price tag of the Aston, and I'm pretentious? In fact, you spent more time on the price difference of the Aston than you did on explaining why you bought an M3. Are you really that insecure you have to try and find little errors in my argument to feel a hollow victory? You obviously don't get it. It was your pretentious behavior that made you step in and rebut a simple comment I made to the OP. It had nothing to do with you, but then again, here we are. To the OP: Truly do what makes you happy, but coming from audiworld.com (which is now a ghost town), coming from AWE tuning (still #1 in the country) I have learned to be proud of what you have. If you want to swap grills for that cleaner look go ahead. I just didn't know if you planned on keeping the RS4 badges. The S4 badges are a sign of merit to it's heritage. The audi's came a long way and were for -quite some time- banned from racing because of the advantage quattro gave them. You have a limited production car that was the beginning of an era. Look at BMW, they are just developing bi-turbo applications, now. Audi shed that light on automotive makers that power can come from a smaller lower emissions vehicle. Plus, the whole emissions crackdown in Europe didn't help things much. |

It is important to be happy with who and what you are. To be happy with what you have. We all aspire to be more. It is important to find peace today.
As for the B5RS4 grill - make sure it is a good manufacturer. There are a lot of crappy pieces out there. No RS4 badges. I saw a B5S4 with RS4 badges about 10 months ago. I was driving a B7RS4 at the time (Daytona Gray with Titanium). His car was very clean. I rolled past and dropped throttle. (The overrun on that car was glorious and I still miss it.) He pulled up next to me and waved, kinda sheepishly if you ask me. He knew he was posing. He could have had a stage whatever under the hood and perhaps smoke my stock B7RS4. Fine - it still ain't a B5RS4. I debadged my B7S4 avant, as I liked the look. It was a freakin station wagon for christ's sake. I left the badges on my RS4, although I had considered swapping them for the aftermarket black badges. The car now belongs to Audi again, so it is no longer my issue. My M3 is stock, interlagos blue with the titanium wheels. I am considering a black grill as the chrome looks kinda silly on the front. The badges are staying. I have never been into upbadging a car. In my youth I never did it with project cars. I didn't put SS badges on my 63 Impala. I didn't remove the 6cyl badge on my 71 T-37 even when I put the 455 in. I must admit, though, that anyone who heard that car at full wood and still thought it was a 6cyl had to be a special kind of stupid. And Tek - I bought my M3 for one good reason. I like it. It is the best reason to own any car. It makes me happy. Last edited by Dr Doofenshmirtz; 08-13-2009 at 10:02 AM. |
