Thermal coating or heat wrap?

What does everyone prefer for better heat dissipation?

Neither are for dissipation or dispersion but the opposite. They are to hold heat in until it reaches an unwrapped or uncoated area. Keeping ambient under hood temps down.

Both have positives and negatives. I recently looked in to ceramic, and Google alone brought to light a bunch of horror stories about ceramic coating damaging 02 a\sensors, at the same time wrap holds moisture and can cause rust.

It depends on that its for, I like ceramic, but its pricey.

I guess I should have stated that I meant dissipation as in NOT allowing into the engine compartment. So you would be more inclined to use the thermal wrap? I see alot of it at the classic and muscle shows on the guys with the rods and they wrap both headers and downpipes with it.

Well wrapping is much cheaper and if you take your time it looks okay. If you do wrap i suggest you paint whats under it with some VHT header paint. Its a ceramic based paint, this way if you do get the wrap wet it will help with the not rusting prosess.

Look I like ceramic, cost and effectiveness I like header wrap. As for my headers.... I am sand blasting them, painting them, and wrapping them. 300 bucks for ceramic, that may foul my o2's doesn't seem worth it.

out to win...do u have any more information on that fowling of sensors by the coating? I have my exhaust jet coated, and I get a code for my sensor about once a month...not that i'm gonna change anything, but your information is pretty interesting.

I did this on my car. It's not a daily driver so I am not worried about rust or anything like that.

It seems to give you some extra horses in the upper rpms. The theory is the more heat in the pipes the quicker and easier the exhaust moves thru it. ALso keeps heat out of the engine bay.

No kiss, not really. I was told about the sensor issue on ls1tech.com and then I googled it and I found a lot of post about how people coating their headers, pipes, ect and then throwing 02 codes. Just google it.

i never thought about the coating causing the sensors to give codes but i can see the extra heat causing the 02 heater part of the sensor to function wrong.
