So heres the deal. i just got done selling my main walk around lens and my other lens i dont use anymore. Im left my prime and zoom-telephoto lens.

Im in the market for a wide angle zoom lens. Except i dont know what to get.

Ive been looking at the following lenses:

Nikon 10-24
Nikon 12-24
Tamron 10-24
Sigma 10-20
Tokina 12-24 Pro II
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8

Im not looking to drop a fortune and buy a 1500+ lens. I just want a good quality wide angle lens that will end up living on my camera.

Sorry if there was another thread posted about this. i searched and must have missed it.

but i have it, and love it for wide applications

i have the sigma, love it. id also consider the tokina 11-16 and the nikkor 10-24.

You have a good chance of getting a soft copy if you go with the Sigma, the Nikon's probably your best bet. The Tokina's a lot faster, and it's sharper than Canon's 10-22. I have the Tokina and I had the Sigma before, wouldn't go back at all.

I have the Tokina 12-24 and its great! looking to get rid of it for the Sigma 10-20.

im really thinking about the nikon 12-24 because you can pick them up used for a decent price. the Nikon 10-24 another one that id really like, just havent herd to much about it.

the sigma ive herd conflicting reviews on it.

if you get the nikon 12-24 just look at the tokina 12-24. its bascially the same build and optics.

Just remember, Sigma's lenses are known for being soft and sometimes having a yellow tint. Tokina's way sharper, plus goes to f/2.8. I'd go with one of the Nikons or the Tokina. Like I said, Ive had the Sigma 10-20 and I now own the Tokina 11-16, and I can definitely see the difference.

I'm only pushing this lens because I haven't heard of many people having it, and it's a really good lens. Cheap price, sharp glass(even at 11mm), fast and affordable. The only two negatives about it is the lens flare, it gets bad when you aim it directly at a light facing the lens, and its minimum focus distance is further away than some other wide angles.

the tokina, like the canon is only for cropped sensors from my understanding, is that ture? I am in the market for a wide angle lens for a FF body and the tokina is 1/3 of the price of what i have been looking at.

The Tokina's for cropped, I'm pretty sure whoever started this thread has a cropped sensor. I've never looked into wide angles for a full frame, but I know the Canon 24mm and 14mm are ridiculous on a full frame. Have fun spending two grand though.

I love my Canon 16 - 35L II 2.8 - I have tried some 10's, and I don't like the distortion that some of them have. I think 14 - 16 is about as wide as I want for an ordinary walk around. Any wider than that and I'd be zooming partly just to avoid the distortion

could you shoot an interior with it at 16mm and give a rough estimate of the width of the room. I am debating between the 16-35 2.8L or the 17-35 2.8

I agree with that 100%. I use the Tokina 12-24 and it is a very sharp piece of glass. Definitely worth a look.

i had one of the 16-35's rented last weekend and i meant to text you to see if you wanted to try it but forgot haha. i got it from allens so maybe they still have it if you wanted to see how it works.
