Im looking at a place in W. Powelton Village. The rent is 550/month for a decent sized 1 bad 1 bath on Spring Garden. Utilities are not included though, What do you guys usually pay for utilities for a single in a single bedroom in the philly area?

its a decent price, the street isnt too bad, and it makes it convenient for me to get to work. Its not like im raising a family there.

I had a 1 BR apartment in Roxborough last year and it cost me about $75 per month for electric. Heating was included along with water. Cable depends on what you get. Comcast will cut you a deal for the first 6 months for either internet or tv or both.

my two bedroom house uses oil and we get RAPED every time they fill it up, it also depends on how much we use but it works out to 6 or 700 every 4 months for oil alone, electric is 150-ish and internet/TV is 175 through comcast. im also not in philadelphia, but i am in the surrounding suburbs.

From experience, the 'burbs are a lot more expensive. It's easier to get away with stuff in the city(getting free internet through wifi, etc). As for electric, I used to run my computer all day long and leave my A/C on all day and that's how much I got charged. Right now I'm living in a big ass house in the suburbs and the electric isn't bad. The bad part is the natural gas for heating during the winter, which would come close to $600 a month for 2 stories and about 5 bedrooms.

id rather live in west than northeast, atleast theres some action, and easier to get to center city. if you want to ride your bike to CC from NE you gotta ride through some really ****ty parts, plus its too far

+1. NE seems isolated. And if you want to get to CC you gotta go through the dirty hispanic sections or take the boulevard to I76. Or, ride a boat.
