Some product photos..opinions?

Basically the idea was to take a pic, then remove the subject from the background, paste it onto a gradient background, and add a small border, checking for fine edges along the line. Thoughts? These are only a few of ~150

They still need some clean-up. Wish I had a whitebox to make this all easier but meh.

Lighting's a little harsh, just shoot through white paper if you're using flashes. Try to get more detail in the shots too, have everything in focus.

You need to work on your lighting a bit, a good 12 x 12 softbox as a key light will work good. In addition, you should bounce some light back in with reflectors (white/silver/gold) whatever looks good. The top surfaces look flat and not crisp the detail is going away because you're shooting wide open. If you're using hot lights use a longer exposure and adjust your white balance. If you're going to crop the image and place it in different background, apply a 1 point feather to your selection, it will help to the soften the image and not look so artificial. Probably should add a subtle drop shadow back in as well, so it's not so flat looking.

Yeah, and not the nicest extraction at that. Too too harsh.

i would just build a small light tent/box and place the items in that and light it from all sides maybe a little plexi glass as the bottom for a good reflection. you can buy them for like $40 but making one with tracing paper as the diffusion works great.

A white table cloth and some work lights would probably do it for you on these. If you still have acess to the products just reshoot so that you can use some type of background instead of having them float in space. As for the cutting them out, learn to use the pen tool instead of laso, you'll have much smoother edges.

that should give you a good idea on where to start with it.

the edges are really rough. make yourself a lightbox and you'll have much better results i think. plus the shots need to have a shadow somewhere, which none of these have.

This dude has no idea what he is talking about...

Anywho... A softbox will work if you want basic product shots, but you mentioned that you wanna lift the objects into another background.

You could always pick up some green or bluescreen paper to make it easier to cut around the product. it is not all that expensive or go to a crafts store and get poster board in any color that is not included in the object. Then use the magic wand tool in PS to lift the image.

Changing backgrounds is a pain and you really are better off tryin to shoot it on the colors you need if it is poss

lol keep thinking we get our info from google. shut. the ****. up. if you dont think those product shots look like ****, or think that a lightbox is not the way to go, then you should reconsider calling yourself a "pro". you have in no way, shape, or form conducted yourself as a professional since joining this site.
