How do you trap a groundhog?

So there is a family of groundhogs in the woods behind my house and they are tearing up the bushes around my house, I have a Havahart trap out by their burrows with lettuce in it because word on the street is that is what will do the trick but I have only caught squirrels. Anybody ever had to snag these little bastards? I would just shoot them but I only randomly see them so ill just trap them and take them for a trip down the road.

sweet, I think my trap is a little small, its the one for rabbits and squirrels and the groundhogs ive seen are fat little ****ers I don't see them trying to shove themselves into it for some lettuce, but then again I could be wrong im not a groundhog I don't know. If you ask your pops when you get a chance I would appreciate it.

I had a problem with squirrels last year. they were pulling off siding and trying to get into the house or something.. Ended up buying some like pellet things that you sprinkle around and it keeps them away. I'm not positive but i'm pretty sure they have the same thing for most other pests. Maybe try looking into that?

Yea I was just about to say, I googled real quick and fumigation came up..

I also read that each spring the female has about 4-6 young so you've probably got at least a half dozen running around under your yard..

Harbor Freight sells some big traps. Big enough to hold a fat racoon. I had a few groundhogs at my house. I just waited till they walked out and stood up then I blasted them. If you take the screen out of your window so all you have to do is open it they normally never move. Plus it is more fun then traping them.

My groundhog lives in the half of my basement that is dirt, like a crawl space. Crafty little fat guys. Anyways, they're not too bright, so I would just cut off the entrance and exit points to their next. Let them die and decompose. Let mother nature do its part.
