Keep in mind you know your car and what its been through, an SR 19-11 years old, on a budget from whoever is the cheapest you don't know what you'll get or its history.

KA-T:
Pros: Already have the motor Easy to find parts for Make decent power (~300whp is more then you think in a 2500lb car) Know how its been cared for etc Cons: Have to piece together your own turbo kit Stock internals, depending on mileage, can sometimes hold 3-400hp, other times it can pop at 250-300hp, really depends Not as much aftermarket compared to sr Not really many cons honestly SR20DET: Pros: Already turbo Supports a bit more power on stock internals making 300hp is easy squeezy lemon peezy HUGE aftermarket JDM YOOOO Cons: Harder to find parts for .4 liters less Don't know how bad it was beat on, don't know mileage, etc. Cost wise, it depends on your power goals. Building a KA will run you a few grand to begin with if your going fully built, plus machine work etc. If you do an SR, you spend like 4k to get the stock motor and have it installed, spend another grand on bolt ons and your at 300+whp easy. Plus, are you planning on doing anything yourself or having someone else do it?

KA-T all the way.
SR is an older motor. You don't know who owned it before you. You already have the KA, Just use that..or if you don't have a daily..then get a second KA for like 200 bucks or so. and build that outside of the car..You can get stuff so much cheaper..Just cause the SR comes stock turbo doesn't mean ****, yeah it can handle more power and you can be jdm tyte as ****. but its .4 liters less like mentioned above, Forged internals stock..but still. At the cost of the SR, and the time it'll take you to get it..You would have wanted your KA-T already.. Plus SR's are way overated. |

I just wanna say, I agree and I disagree. It is overrated in the way so many "jdm fanboys" are always like "oh I got an SR, I am all knowing all being god." However, it is a very good motor, and has huuuge potential. And even with basic bolt ons, they're still pretty damn fast lol.

Just pick up a 150 dollar KA get some forged internals, have it machined and assembled then go to KAT.org and build a monster The 1500-2500 you will spend on the SR will cover a used KA, internals, machining, and the rebuild goodies, then piece together your boost and at the end of it all... now you have a built motor/ end thread
