Has anybody actually saved money by....

switching insurance companies? My friend has a spotless driving record and has had full coverage for about 8 years. She called up Geico to get a quote and they wanted about $140 more a year. Where are all these people who save hundreds of dollars by switching to Geico?

I just figured that she would save something because right on their site it says that new customers save on average about $500 annually. These places particularly cater to the people with excellent driving records and are accident free, both of which she is.

I thought Geico was "You can save 15% or more on car insurance." They do have cool commercials though.. lol.

I have USAA also. I know I could save some $ by going with another carrier but I stay with them because anytime I've ever had a claim it was always quickly resolved without any problems. I've heard some real horror stories from people who have a lot of trouble collecting on a policy when they had a claim. For me that peace of mind is worth the $ every month.

Geico, Progressive and other advertised cheap insurance cater entired to low risk drivers. They aren't interested in having young, high risk drivers on their books. So the quote outrageous premiums and we stay away.
