im gunna be buying a wrx soon, hopefully within the next month or so. i wanted to ask some of the general subi owners if theres anything specific i should be looking out for? ive heard the trannies on them arent the best and i have plans to do an sti swap asap. but are there any common problems that wrx's tend to have that should be kept in mind when going to check them out? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

you say the sti is out of your price range, his car is going for 18k, say you get a wrx for 13-14k, doing an sti swap will cost you about 4-5k, and that is just the drivetrain, not to mention all the work that would have to be done to swap everything, if you want an sti, get an sti, if you want a wrx get a wrx, but if you get a wrx and do the swap, in the end you'll be spending more then you would have on the sti in the first place

idk if ill be approved for that large of a loan, thats the thing.

well see how much you can get and go from there, cause you're gonna end up spending a butt load of cash on an sti swap into a wrx

I'm selling my 2005 WRX for $13.5k. Tons of STI upgrades to hold you over with just 52k miles. Automatic trans so you don’t have to worry about it breaking on you =). I need it gone because I got a house and I’m getting married. Car payments + insurance isn’t as much fun as it used to be.

the only thing i could suggest is to find a car from someone that never modded the car out. or if they did that they didnt beat the hell out of it. you dont want to buy a car for 15k then have to replace the motor cuz some kid over boosted and raced it all over town. and if you plan on doing all the sti swap it would be a smarter choise to start with the best (sti) then build up from there. trust me i bought my car with 5500 miles on it and spent bout 10k makin it better when i could have just went for the sti. but i like my wagon too much to go back now

yeaa i got you. i mean this is gunna be a car just to be fun daily driver, i dont plan to do anything crazy with this one. im jus looking to have around 300 whp...my next car im gunna do more with. when its time for that i think im just gunna go all out and get myself a clean sti n take it from there. i can do without the extra insurance and what not right now
