Does anyone know of a place that has R12 that can top off the system in my Accord? The system hasn't been touched for about 10 years so it could use a refill. It does not leak because it still functions correctly but just needs to be topped off.

i dont think anyone has it i believe u need to convert it.

Yes it is the old stuff. I wish I didn't have to convert, R12 is much better.

They sell cans of freeze 12 at the autoparts store, It's an R12 replacement and works fine if you just wanna top it off.

Yeah, its R134a, not r12.

i know u need a license from the EPA to sell/buy R12, and its hella expensive.

if you can get a set of gauges, you might be able to talk to a HVAC guy and see if they can top it off for you.

Freeze 12 is a replacement for R12. However, all of the old R12 first has to be removed before you put in Freeze 12. A friend of mine didn't do that, and now he has a seized compressor.

I know its expensive but I don't need much. Converting the system will cost $160 plus however much it will cost to vacuum the system and refill with R134a.

r12 is still available at about $100 a pound to Moblile Air Conditioning Society licence holders (i got that)

r134a is only about $10 a pound

i dont recomened you do the conversion, go to a shop, get it serviced by a professional (make sure you dont have a leak) and then pony up the money to have it done right

youll never fogive your self if you go to 134a, its no where near as good as a refrigerant as r12 but it serves is purpose well enough

I know it doesn't have a leak, the car is 20 years old and the A/C was only serviced once and it needed a little top off. Do you have any R12?

I honestly forgot. I'll call tomorrow. Its 1.5hours away so swinging by isn't exactly an option. However, if they do have it for a reasonable price then its worth the drive.
