What to look for in a used bike?

I stumbled upon an older Ninja. Its a little bigger than what I want to get. Its a 1985 Kawasaki Ninja 600R (or zx600). Its up there in mileage a bit so I was wondering if there was anything I needed to look for? Its priced right

Thanks for the help guys.

brakes / pads / lines, check the seals on the front forks, oil, chain and sprockets, that it starts and runs fine pretty much anything you would on a used bike

What's your price range? I wouldn't go for a bike that old, it will need the suspension completely redone which alone will bring the price up to what you would pay for a much newer machine.

My price range is rather cheap - something around $1500. I have to cut some $$ off the top since I'm spending a good amount in protection.

$1500 may not get you more than a 250. I really recommend you look for a 500.. even so, you may have some issues with being undersprung. Feel free to PM me I will critique your choices...

He never got back to me so I assume it was sold.

I checked out the 85 Ninja. It wasn't in bad shape. It had a few dents in the tank and the fairings had a few scratches.

A guy the same size as my had it so I got some good feedback on it. I jumped up and down on the bike and teh suspension *seemed* solid but I dont know what its supposed to feel like.
