Adventures in off camera lighting (all strobists welcome) Updated 5/4/09

Over the past 6 or so months I've been getting into off camera lighting, but I've been so backed up with other pictures that I haven't gotten a chance to process any of the fun shots I've been taking.

I've been on Strobist pretty much every day sucking up as much of David's info as possible and I even picked up his DVD which I can definitely recommend.

Well, enough talk and on with the pics, these will be in a rough chronological order so that hopefully you will see me focusing in on the different things I've been learning...

I got some random inspiration from a hat I had just bought for my girlfriend and 2 of my hats which were right next to my desk...

And then some more inspiration from a few random cars around my apartment...

Nosey little bugger wouldn't leave me alone...

Haha must have a ton of pics coming! They look pretty good. Personal faves being the helmet (although the reflections bother me a bit) the cat and the front of the iPod (I'd never seen that "screen saver")

Care to elaborate on what you used? Camera, flash, etc...

Canon Xsi with either the kit 18-55 or my buddy's 50mm 1.8 prime and a 430 ex2 flash triggered by Ebay Yongnuo poverty wizards.

The helmet was the hardest thing to shoot as the gloss black is basically a mirror so lighting it does nothing, I had to light everything around it which was completely trial and error because of all the funky angles on the dam thing

More pics coming, stay tuned

I've had great luck with my Ebay triggers...

Thanks man, I'm confused as to why they haven't either but to be honest I really don't miss not having it because of these $40 Ebay triggers and maybe Canon has seen the writing on the wall and are going to an RF system. I can't say I like Nikkon's current CLS system due to the camera's built in flash always providing fill, and it's ridiculous that Canon's current system requires the mack daddy flash or a separate $200+ IR box. Until either one of them integrate an RF system I'll be sticking with these Ebay triggers or Pocket Wizards if I lose my mind/win the lottery

New shots just went up in the second post, they were shot in Jan. and you can see me starting to get the hang of using less light but putting it where I wanted it
