Do you work on your own car ?

So i was just wondering how many people here work on their own cars ?

And are mechanically inclined to do your own basic repairs on your own ?

Also do any of you guys do your own fabrications interior/engine ?

How often do you use an outside source to install/fabricate things on your car ?

And do you go for the most popular in demand mod's and parts that are available or do you select only the parts that set your car apart from all the others.

These are just random questions i was pondering please answer each if your going reply thanks.

I do everything myself, except things that require special tools. (i.e. alignments, mounting/balancing tires, things of that nature) Everything else I do myself. Actually, my last car that I just sold last weekend, I blew the rear end up, and had a shop do a new one, that was the first time I've EVER actually taken a car somewhere and said "here fix this".

I can pretty much do it all from a basic tune up to rebuilding any ford transmission. I've done everything on my dsm so I know its been done right w/o any short cuts.

Only time my car goes into the shop is for alignment and inspection.

I can't stand other people driving my car or working on it. Last time they put it on the lift, they put the damn lift supports on the f***ing body weld and bent it and cracked the paint.

F***ing retards.

I do basic stuff. coilovers, sway bars, fmic, bushings, exhaust, plugs, fluid changes minus coolant. Anything that bolts on and off easily. I think its fun and gives you a certain amount of pride in your car.

The turbo, turbo inlet, clutch, timing belt, injectors, fuel pump and such were done at Area1320. One of the few shops I trust my car to.

Could I have done them myself? Sure I could, but I dont have all the proper tools. While I have a decent collection of tools but I dont have the tools to take out broken/stripped bolts. A competent shop has the ability to take care of such a disaster in minutes where as I would be running to the hardware store in a panic and possibly be without a car for a day or two.

HAVING THE PROPER TOOLS IS EVERYTHING!

sorry if its in the wrong section will pay some more attention hopefully a mod. will move it.

for myself i pretty much do all my own work. Rebuild the block but never learned how to replace valves and seals in the head. so i sent the head out that was the only thing i had someone else do. But i have done my own shocks/springs,bearing,brakes. swaped interior. some body work. my family owns a shop so there is pretty much little restrictions to what iam able to do. Pretty much just limited to my ability...i gotta learn more

what he said.

my cars go to the shop for inspections and alignments only.

everything else is done in my garage, by me or with friends.

Actually, I'm in the middle of swapping the entire drivetrain from one car to another.

(one does not run, and is gutted but has a clean title, the other runs great, is a complete car but has a salvage title)
