I've always loved ACT clutches. I used them on my DSM's and I use them on my subaru.

i know someone who had a bad experience with the exedy twin-disk clutch... and i have also heard good things about the ACT...

i'm amazed that you're still on the stock clutch! i thought the 02s had a tsb for clutch shudder? that didn't happen for you?

ACT for the subaru tends to take a "gorilla" approach to holding more power with essentially stock disks and really strong pressure plates - some people like this some don't.

exedy, IMO makes an excellent product, i have one in my car currently, and the stock subaru clutch is from exedy. The problem with the carbon clutches (this includes the twin-disk) is that they need to be hot to hold well - i know a number of people who had similar issues, and was told this was the solution by an exedy rep. I guess what i'm trying to say is the street clutches are good IMO, and the race clutches are nice in a race car, but not in a high-power street machine.

Also heard good things about clutch masters, but not positive if they actually have anything avaliable for the subaru at this time.

I assume since you list your car as a WRX and are on the stock clutch you will need a pull-style clutch, which are usually more expensive, so you should try to plan ahead and only buy one... what modifications do you curently have, and what else do you have planned?

also, do you plan to do this yourself or have it installed "professionally?" do you have an engine hoist avaliable? it seems counter-intuitive, but when possible it is easier to pull the motor than the trans for this swap, in my experience.

I have a ACT heavy duty with street disk and I love it! Its been holding up fine for the last 2 years that I've had it and thats with numerous times to the drag strip. If this one ever goes out on me I'll be getting another one.

yeah ash.. i've actually been having alot of clutch shudder, thats why im looking into a new clutch its horrible. I guess alot of people have good things to say about ACT clutches, so im going to look further into them..and there prices. I have TXS stage 4 setup, with the vf 34. I intend on doing nothing else to the car perfromance wise right now, other then the clutch...(and a few exterior mods). Overall im pushing a little more then 300whp so anythings better then the Sh***y stock clutch.

I'd go ACT based on the feedback I've heard from Suby owners.

Yo, Rich from presision tuning has an offer for an exedy clutch/flywheel bought and put in for $1200. I would reccomend exedy over act. Act tends to have a harder pedal feel and also tends to heat up faster, thus creating a stuck pedal feel. Also check out the group buys on the clubwrx.net. Preston from gruppe-s is hosting an act clutch/flywheel combo for $699 shipped and exedy clutch/flywheel combo for only $750 shipped. Check them out bro. If you need more info or links, hit me up with a pm. Late

I agree with most everything said about Exedy and ACT. The trick is to find a shop that is comfortable with the install. It's not rocket science but the small details can make the difference. So if your installer recommends one don't push to have the other installed by the same person. The tricks to putting one in might not be all the same.

Stay away from Clutch masters! Although they know how to build clutches sometimes their customer service sucks.

What do you mean? Would you recomend puting the flywheel in, or are you saying skip it, that it has to many problems?

The flywheel vibration (chatter) might be due to warpage of the flywheel. This happens when it isn't torqued down well or evenly. Same idea as torquing wheel nuts so the rotors don't cause shimmy.

I got the exedy heavy duty twin disk w/ flywheel. Real expensive, real noisy, but once you get used to it you forget you have a twin disk. Holds the power, and I like it, but If I could go back I would of spent even more money and went with a tilton.
