Truck Restoration help for the Special Olympics

Hey guys. My girlfriend and her mom have a Organization called OSAT. It stands for "One Step At a Time". Its a Theraputic Horse riding program that deals with kids with disabilties. Everyone that works there are volunteers. All the money the program makes goes towards the horses. This year they are going to the Special Olympics. The horse truck that they have is in need of a decent make over. Its a pretty big truck. It holds up to 7 horses in the back of it. There is cancer on it and the paint needs to re-done. The motor needs a look at (gas engine), the gas tank float needs to be looked at, the speedo doesn't work, the A/C needs to be repaired. Trim around the truck needs to be blasted and maybe cleared/powder coated. Basically they are looking for a group of people to get together and maybe help them out in order to comfortably transport their horses. I need to get pics of the truck this week for you guys. Im hoping to get some people together that maybe lost their jobs and have nothing better to do during the week or weekend to lend a hand and expertise. Any help would be appreciated.

its located in newtown. Its on a horse farm. I was hoping maybe some vendors could help out with some stuff. Maybe like Bonehead or LPC could sandblast some stuff. Maybe a body shop could supply extra paint that they have a ton of etc. It would be a really nice thing to help them out with. I want to atleast make it like a 10 person event. Will have a grill and maybe we can make it a BBQ day. And if some of you want to ride horses for the first time, now would be the time to learn too.

If I'm not busy whenever this is done - count me in. I'm not much help when it comes to bodywork, but mechanical stuff I'm fine with.

hmm, as far as the paint thing goes, the vendor I would recommend because I've dealt with them is LIP Collision. Real cool dudes. But I'm sure all of our vendors would help, im not trying to say any are better than the others!

I'd be down for helping. It shouldnt even matter how far it is. This is for a good cause.

Thanks Guys... Hopefully I can make it up there some time this week between the rain. And if not I just might take some in the rain anyway. Im hoping to find someone with a paint gun etc. The paint doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs new paint. I need someone that knows something about older trucks lol... The truck does drive. Its just sluggish. Hey Dan, if my civic was registered or insured i would lend it to you for the week. It just has been sitting.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I hope to have more info for you soon... What is everones schedule like for the next month??? So we may work out a date to make everyone available.

Well, I hope to be extremely busy, but business doesn't look good right now. I will have plenty of time if things don't pick up. Is it a Chevy? Ford? Dodge??? What are we dealing with here? Older large trucks tend to be geared lower and might be a bit sluggish. At least get a camera phone pic. If it is an older C60 chevy or something, it will be easy.

Dammit. That's what I was fearing. IH is a good reliable truck, just a little harder to get parts for. Probably(hopefully) a 392 big block with a T18/19 4 speed. Should be ez to tune it up and get it running great.

This is a perfect project for Poolmike no doubt considering some of the toys he has.

Keeper1343 - Id love to also help in anyway. My best trait is clean up and making things look better hehe! I may be able to do something with the seats (I can sew). I can also write up some sort of proposals to shops (auto body, graphics, etc) to get them to do work in replace for small advertisements on the truck (say across the rocker panel??)

Graphics wise you should get someone with a large advertisement stating the cause / orginization on the main body then have a "sponsor’s" section across the bottom with *example* "Poolmikes pool service 555-555-5555" – “so and so’s auto body” etc etc. I think doing it this way would raise huge interests with getting support from Shops.

If you could send me more information I’d be glad to start calling on some shops.

(I can use a Resume builder to help me get a friggin job)

Well, I won't need advertising(well, I do...but that isn't why I'm helping). It is a great cause. Mechanical stuff shouldn't be an issue. It will surely be a workout climbing up on it. Those old IH engines won't set the world on fire or set land speed records, but they certainly last a long time and will pull like nothing else. I will call you now that I have your number. We can probably bust out the mechanical end before the paint work. I am EXTREMELY tight on $$$ right now, but I will provide my labor. Who has some cash/supplies? We will need a few gallons of gear oil, motor oil, grease, Distributor cap, points, plugs, wires, etc. Tune up shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour. Oil changes will be fun.

btw if you do want some vinyl graphics for it (monochrome) I can help out with that...that is if it'll stick to it. Depending on paintwork it might be a challenge.
