They tend to be pricey cars, and if you're getting a free paint job out of it, it sounds sweet. Ask him if he has paperwork to verify the rebuild and see where he' getting it painted at.

1 it's not an 89... it's an s4 rx7 with a 13bt. they only made around 184 hp stock and that's not even to the wheels. they have a twin scroll turbo and mechanical fuel pump with lower compression ratio than an s5 t2. they are worth more when in mint condition and stock. i wouldn't pay anymore than 3200 for that car. you don't know how well the port job was done on it. and you have to mod/tune 13b's perfectly or their reliability goes out the window.

you mean mechanical oil metering pump, not fuel pump.

On the plus side, S4's are lighter, didnt get the cost-cut interior, had the better rear diffs, heavy-duty suspension, metal sway-bar endlinks, replacable ball-joints, have the mechanical (and not failure-prone electrical) OMP's, and just look more deliciously 80's. I'd still say its a $3500 - $4k car tops though, and thats if the engine was really rebuilt and ported by someone who knows what they're doing. Good rebuild jobs can run you up to $5k, but thats usually a high-performance build with all sorts of extras. Usually street-driven rebuilds are more like $1000 - $3000
