Last winter my rex did that. I put in a new battery with higher cold cranks and it started fine after that.
Lately its been starting a bit "rough" but nothing near stalling.

turn the key to the on position for a second or two before actually turning the car over... that seems to help for me.

i used to have to do the old turn the key to the on spot and wait till the lights on the dash go out then start with my old car i guess it gives it time for the fuel system to charge or something try that like troll said.

it's 'TehWagon' now, pete--- try to keep up

yes i had the same thing just yesterday- wierd! the car started, rpms dipped as they normally do, but very low, and stalled in stead of returning to normal idle. and this was when the car was already warm!

troll is right- turning the key to on for a few seconds primes the fuel pump, and helps with cold starts... but for this problem i'm leaning towards the battery resolution...

joe, jdmwrxwagon, had a similar issue last year, and thinks his was due to switching from a CAI to a short ram... though he hasn't confirmed this, it may have just been a coincidence that it occured around the same time.

keep us posted if you diagnose it and i will be interested to hear other ideas- really freaked me out yesterday!

get a battery with more cca's (cold cranking amps). also like troll said, keying it in the on position for a second before starting does help, i get flooded all the time

By doing this, you are priming you'r fuel system.A weakend battery would not affect the car after it is started.

I have had that happen to me before. Honestly I dont think its a big problem, if it starts to become an issue contact Richie from Precision tuning, or some Subie tuner friends lol

I dunno if it would stall because of a battery, maybe an altanator, but who knows??

eastsidesuby....got a few pointers, 1. how many miles do you have on your car? if around 60,000 miles than you are going to want to replace your fuel filter....it may be a bit clogged and restricting the fuel that you need to get the car started smoothly.. 2. what kinda of aftermarket intake? has it givin you a problem before and is the MAF screwed in all the way or is it in there half ass? with our cars the slightest difference in airflow will throw some of them off, not all of them tho....anyways if your car is running at 1000 rpm's at idle thats way too high, it should be around 500 a little bit over (on a cold start 1000 seems mmore like it) PM me with any questions...

eastsidesuby, it could be! Ever since the temps went pretty low around here, I've been smelling strong gas fumes when my car is running cold through my air vents.
It makes smoking a cigarette and driving very exciting.

um..i dunno when i start my car for the first time on a cold day when its not warmed up the rpms tend to be 1500, then it works its way down to 500. But then again you have a super wrx lol. j/p joe
