Artists Thread

I figured since a few us are Artists here on TST, including myself, why not throw it up for some critiquing or just showing off? I personally have not been producing work that I would consider to be gallery work until recently. Ill post up a few works ive done of different mediums to get the ball rolling.

I would say any kind of work from Photog, to graphic design, to sculpure can be included in here. Art is art. Only thing I ask is that it be your own work unless your showing a source image.

If critiquing, do not just state that you "like" something. That gives no helpful information. State what you like about the piece. Remember to keep things in mind such as color choice, values, medium or mediums used, techniques, ect., ect.
Some more critiquing guideline sources:

I would like this to be a sticky. Im not sure if it should go in General Entertainment or what. I figured ill let the mods take care of that part. Everything I posted, and will continue to post, is mine unless otherwise noted. Thanks for the kind words.

Good thread I will post some of my work up soon. But for now... I'll critique.
It's going to come off the wrong way no matter what but your work is very ametuerish. Is this HS art work/projects? College?

#1 Looks sloppy, big fat brush strokes for the water are very visible and display a total lack of control and no thought.(look at the picture of your water and they look at your painting?) It looks like 3 base coats (water, land sky) and the only layered portion being the ambiguous trees. The trees are just fat blobs though... Painting is successful when the paint can be layered to create dept, this is very flat and could have been successful with out the trees, then the 3 color washes would work together, but once you added the thick blob trees, you should have added the same painting technique to the water and sky.

#2 Spray paint art has come a long way, and this is just very sloppy and again shows lack of control in a rushed/sloppy way. use more masking and blending of colors.

#3, #4 vector art? these just don't show much knowledge of the software, they would probably be more successful as a collage or a painting.

#5 Is decent, I would prefer more of the flower in focus and less of the berry.

#6 looks like snapshot.

i think a good question is how old are you? this comes off as something someone in high school or middle school did.

thanks for the critique grimm. As for my acrylic, that ws my first canvas painting yet. i focused more on trying to blend rather than detail. The digitals where Illistrator which i am somewhat fairly new at. Ive used it but in a totally different way than that. Im just starting my second year in collage as a multimedia student. My first year consisted of pretty much just practice stuff. and i know i still have A LOT to learn before producing i think is really worthy of being shown.

Great work with your paintings though. How long have you been producing artwork?

The blending still needs a bit of work, thinner paint, larger brush and taking your strokes off the edge of the canvas will help.
Illustrator is a tough program to master, it takes some time. And if you are well versed in illustrator you know exactly how simple or novice those designs are. But it is one of the better softwares to know in and out!!

The work I posted is from HS thru college and a few years after. I've been doing artwork for as long as I can remember. Been more into photography now.

Like anything you want to be successful in, it takes lots of time and practice.

Ok I'm sorry I have to do it this way but I'm not good with computers. Visit www.artbistro.com. Click on community, then type Jbrower4g63 into the search engine and you should get a picture of me skating. Click on it and you can see some of my art. I think I have 6 gallery's... not positive. Its mostly drawings and paintings, along with some window painting and a little photography. Again if I can figure out how to post pictures I will... But dont hold your breath!

The last one is cool, although i dont like the color choice personally. Where did you learn to do aerosol work like that?

Just picked up tricks through the years. Its all about how you layer it and the way the can is used.
