Newb needs advice on equipment.
Canon SX10 IS: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218012527719 And the Nikon P80: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1205537513525 I've played with the Canon at BestBuy, but the closest Nikon is in Mt Laurel, and I didn't want to cruise all the way out there for something that I'm not into, but I really like the way my dad's old 35mm Nikon feels in my hands, and I imagine that this will be somewhat similar, so I can't completely count the Nikon out. As far as my intrained eye can see, they're both pretty similar..... So, any advice for an aspiring photog? Thanks!

i agree with chris, you should be able to find a used d40 for pretty cheap now. if you like how the 35mm feels, then you would like an entry dslr. point and shoots can only go so far.
heres a d40x for 389 at BH Photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...amera_Kit.html

Agreed with those 2.. you might not have the skills naow but you will as you learn/practice.. those cameras are almost as expensive as a used body, why not take the plunge? That way, you won't have to go about buying something else later once you've learned what you need to master...

i never liked the d40. i would opt for a d50 instead. they go for roughly the same price and in my opinion are easier to use. i never liked the display on the LCD

I think that I'm going to go after that D40x after e-mailing back and forth with BH. It's basically a rebuilt unit at a fraction of a price of a new one. Is the lens that comes with it newb-friendly for all around shots? Can somebody help me decipher the number code of the lens?

yea the 18-55mm has always had a motor in it. a lot of people will bash this lens, but ive taken some nice shots with that lens. if you know its limitations, its a great lens. not perfect, but great.

Quick update, I pulled the trigger and ordered that d40x. It was too good a deal to pass up, should be here thursday and I'll be shooting up a storm.

It just showed up today, but I wasn't here when UPS was, so I jetted down to Oregon Ave in Philly to pick it up. I've been playing with it non-stop for, like, two hours.
