Has anyone been to Daytona other than bike week?

Just got back yesterday and I was literally stunned. It was pretty ghetto. All empty stores and lots on the beach.

The actual beach front strip was all dive motels and bars. The titty bars were all soft-core. I wonder how that goes over during bike week. The state tax on booze was insane, $20 more than here in PA for bottles of JD.

5 miles inland, around the daytona speedway was nothing but slums until you reached a 1 radius block of the race track and then it was nice. Driving on the beach was sweet, but as you looked at all of the hotels they were all falling apart. The exact opposite of OCMD. Take note to the caution tape around the hot tub, and we had one of the nicest hotels, still smelled of ass, had bullet holes in the walls, and lacked essentials. All of the nice places were time shares.

I was just surprised by how nice it looks on TV and then when you get there........

Not complaining. Paid $50 a night on the ocean, tanned at 70 degrees and wore my shorts in Jan lol.

That being said, $59 to fly down, $200 for the rental car (07 charger), $50 a night for beach front, Im trying to get back down there for bike week.

the economy sucks down there being a seasonal city. i guess you didnt go to ponce inlet or new smyrna. the busy times are the race weeks and biketoberfest/bike week. ive been to all of them including the rolex 24. thats when i actually enjoyed living there. and you went down at the wrong time of the year. usually daytona is cold during winter and people go more south.


trust me....everything changes come bike week.
