Racing/Driving simulator??

I'm going to turn my attic into a game room, sort of, and wanted to know what the hot setup is currently? I'll only be play racing games, no sports type stuff, so please keep that in mind when making suggestions.

Currently I have an old PS2 with a couple grand trisimo games. I haven't really used it much in the last couple years but with winter here and me not being able to race for a couple months thats going to change.

would a desktop computer with a big monitor be the best suggestion, or is there a gaming system out that that would work better?

Also want to pickup a steering wheel type controller... I don't know how advanced things are but if there is a system that has a steering wheel, pedals & a shifter all incorporated, thats along the lines of what I'm looking for. basically, I want something that is about as close to actually racing without driving to the track.

TIA for your input.

agreed

or a ps3 or an xbox.. i believe there is a steering wheel + pedals(including clutch) and shifter(actual 6 speed) for the xbox..

then get forza or grid... or if you get a ps3 get grand torismo or grid.

but definately get a projector.

i'd say go with the computer, you can always upgrade to keep up with new games... the upfront cost will be more though...

at least 1500 for the computer to run full graphics, 500+ for a decent projector... either a screen or paint the wall white...

those gaming chairs are pretty costly as well... if you can't get one of those chairs with the build in speakers, a surround sound system will be required. then you're looking at $200 for a really good steering wheel + pedal set

of course... you did say simulator... so I assume you want to go all out... not just hook an xbox up to a tv and play...

I was planning on spending at least a couple grand so what you're suggesting is right in line.

you def want something scalable at that price then... which is why i think a computer is going to be the best bet... that way 5 years down the line you can upgrade a component to play the next big game... instead of needing to buy a new system

pretty awesome though... i'd love to see it when its done

I always dream about doing this but just don't have the time. Keep us updated on the project cause I'd really like to see what you end up doing.

this isn't going to be some kind of ball game room or anything. just a gaming system, chair and some type of monitor which I haven't decided on. I'd like to do a projector style setup but my attic doesn't have a lot of usable space because of how my roof slopes. I've only got about 12'x20' of area that I can use.

i think that should be fine as long as you have 14' back that you could put the projector.. at least thats how far a friend of mine's has to be. we only got 11' or so in his sub basement and still got a 73" screen diagonally. looked amazing for xbox 360 :thumbup".

guess it depends on everything you get.

If I had $300 to piss away on a wheel, and it worked with my 360, I would buy this in a second.
