NJ Considering Legalizing Marijuana

New Jersey's legislature is considering a proposal to legalize marijuana for medical use in New Jersey.

The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens committee will take up the issue Monday.

The bill's primary sponsor is Union County Democrat Sen. Nicholas Scutari. He tells The Star-Ledger of Newark that he thinks the legislation is groundbreaking.

The proposal would make New Jersey the 14th state to sanction marijuana for medical uses.

It would require state health officials to approve case-by-case requests from doctors who recommend marijuana for patients with debilitating medical conditions. Approved patients would then be given a state ID card verifying their enrollment in the program.

The proposal could face a lengthy approval fight.

On a serious note you think its stupid that people suffering from cancer and other diesease in pain, starving due to treatment effects, and the various other reasons it is legal in select states is a stupid idea....

I know it may at times be taking advantage of, but that is with any other legal drug available too....

I dont think its stupid at all to legalize for MEDICAL use

in that case, there's something called KIMO, ever hear of it, that helps with cancer not smoking a leaf.

put it this way, it doesn't necessarily need to be put in a RX bottle or bag, in order for someone to get weed, and it makes it easier to like about it, anybody can come up with that excuse of saying they have a medical problem that requires smoking weed, I think its gonna get out of hand.

Like i said above...tons of substances are abused, Oxycotton, Vicodin, Benzo, Anit-depressents, etc....but they are still legal because they do serve a purpose for the ones WHO NEED IT

Edit: In cases and concerns like this, it is important to look at the sitaution from both sides...

Completely agree. If it will relieve the pain of suffering people, why not let them have it?

What exactly do you have against it. Im not positive but I think it's also spelled Chemo? I might be wrong tho.. And the reason someone would chose marijuana over chemo is exactly as someone already said, chemo has ALOT of ****ty side effects..

Yup, It's not like they're going to be passing it out at the supermarket or something. Your going to need a legit reason to have it and if it does pass im fairly confident they will be VERY strict as to who gets the go ahead to use it..

Not too sure where you were going with this becuase like I said before they're not just gonna give out free samples or something. What makes it easier to like? I'm going to like it more if I see my dying grandmother smoking pot to ease her last moments on earth? I doubt that would make me want to smoke more.. I dont think it will get out of hand at all. I doubt you will even know anyone who is granted use of medical marijuana should it pass.

Exactly, and not to be funny or anything but I'm sure a few of you have seen Katt Williams stand up. And it's true that you take enough of any of ^^^ those and it will be your last time.. The same can't be said for marijuana.

Chemo kills cells to hopefully kill the cancer cells to stop their reproduction.

Week is to help with the pain associated.

Two completely different things.

My opinion: It's crazy not to legalize it for medical use. Will it increase the number of people smoking? No. Will it help those who actually benefit from it? Yes.

Well from that article it says

"In addition, Tashkin said, previous studies found that marijuana tar has 50 percent higher concentrations of chemicals linked to cancer than tobacco cigarette tar."

So one of the two experiments must be off somewhere.

for people with joint issues and chronic pain (haha) like people get from bad cases of lymes disease (yours truly) medical marijuana gets you happy, it takes your pain away, it makes you like your life.

pills... addiction withdrawl and rehab. who goes to rehab for weed addiction? NO ONE because it doesnt happen... unless your a panzy.

just like everyone said. a PROFESSIONAL doctor will be perscribing this to people in need.

+1 for legalizing.

oh and your never gonna get rid of your so called "stoners" youd be suprised who smoke these days...

cant always judge a book by its cover.

EDIT: i was reading in a book about a study being preformed by a university (i will get links about this soon) that they were testing marijuana effects on cancer cells and the causes of cancer. more than 80% of the time the thc blocked off cancer cells and killed them off and it was becoming so successful that the D.E.A shut down the testing and terminated anything associated.

Using it for medical purposes would be legal
Making up excuses that your back hurts wouldn't be

Legalize it...I don't think Marijuana is that addictive either, a buddy of mine was a heavy smoker for a year and then just quit like it was nothing.
