Is there a way to go from an External hard drive to a FM modulator?

I know I have seen the USB port FM modulators but I was wondering if there was a way to just hookup my external hard drive with 41 gigs of music on it to the factory radio without splicing in. Would a regular USB Modulator do the trick?

Im trying to refrain from buying a aftermarket with a USB port and running a long cable to my trunk.

Thanks guys!

is it possible? maybe. is it easy, cheap, or practical? nah, not at all. your best bet would be to just buy an iPod or Zune, put your 41gb on it, and use an FM transmitter or an AUX input if you have it in the front or back of your OEM headunit. keep the harddrive as backup to your ipod.

also think about this.. even if there was an easy way to hook an FM transmitter to your external drive, how would you navigate content? you'd need a laptop in your car. you'd also need a permanent power supply for the hard drive. even if you were to get an aftermarket headunit, you'd have to navigate your content through the headunit itself which is next to impossible to do. most single DIN headunits only have 2 lines of scrolling text and are very difficult to use.

I know it's not exactly what you want and I hate to upsell you on things, but I have decent radios for less then 200 installed that you can run your hard drive to...
