Justifying modding

Wondering how other people may justify modifying an otherwise perfectly good car to spouse, parents...etc. What arguments have you used? Formerly, I would mention... there are many worse things I could be doing than playing and spending money on than my car (beer, drugs, sex...etc), and It is probably the most common hobby in America. So I am not alone.
Lately, I just ignore the woman

i simply say its what i choose to spend my money on.... and if they argue.. i say knowing that i can do rolling burnout down the freeway at well above legale speeds puts the biggest smile on my face ever....

they tend to drop it after that statement.

my gf jsut hates the fact she knows for the rest of her life... she WILL be in second place.

"exhaust" improves gas mileage so you spend less money on the car, which means more money for the spouse (always works). "suspension" improves stability which will keep you and your spouse/parents safer in the vehicle. bigger tires will "grip" the road for increased stability once again to keep everyone safe. lol just be vague and stress the "improvements." i like to say, "with all the crazy people out on the roads today, wouldn't you want me in a safe, reliable, (perfectly tuned) car to keep me from being hurt" lol gotta get them with the guilt and you're golden

My parents are always saying, "why on earth would u need to make ur car faster than it already is?" and they always tell me to "get real", but i figure that this is the best time to spend the $$$ on my car, because im still under their roof while im in school. It would be much harder if i waited till i had my own bills to pay, along with providing the neccesities. So my aim is to do most of my work soon while im still in school living at home.

Besides that, I just tell them they dont understand.

This turbo will help me go through intersections faster if I am in danger, and these oversized brakes will help me stop.

Friend of mine tried to argue with his parents that n2o would improve gas milage? And that a body kit improved aerodynamics? Yes, this was also back around 2002-2003, when F&F was getting popular.

Me personally, my mom hated the fact. My dad tried to argue, and my counter to that was, "you did the same thing that I am doing at my age, Grandmom told me so."

He shut up quick.

I justified rims/tires by saying my footprint was wider and it gave me better traction and handling in the rain.

HIDs help me see better....

thats it really.
